As a purveyor and afficionado of fine linen here in the Southwest, I have to address this situation. Sheets are like shoes, no matter the quality, if they are not properly cared for and rotated - they wear out quickly. Think about it, would you expect a pair of Prada heels to last a lifetime if you wore them every single day and never conditioned them? And just as extreme elements and poor hygiene will trash a shoe quicker than you can say "splenda", the same is true for your sheets. The #1 cause of holes in sheets are unsightly, poorly groomed feet. (this is usually the husband - though I've seen a few exceptions, neither here nor there) Those scratch, nappy heels dig and abrate right through even the finest textile. Also hate to break it to you, but hairy backs / aggressive facial hair, etc. do the exact same thing. So if you want to enjoy the quality of fine linen, take time and excersise proper care please.... PS a front loader washer makes a world of difference, and ease up on the chemicals and heat!
