Two Words: tummy sickness

by lulululuve at Citysearch

i ordered pineapple Fried Rice with chicken. My mom ordered pad thai noodles. Both dishes were not the greatest in taste, but average I would say. "Not worth going back" were my thoughts when I was leaving the restaurant. AND 5 HOURS after I got home, i had my head in the toilet. My tummy was doing summer salts all night to say the least. This review won't allow me to type food p___, but you get the idea. My mom was also sick!!!! Do Not Eat At Beau Thai.

  • Pros: our server was nice.
  • Cons: i had food p___. Had my head in the toilet for an hour.

not worth it.

by kumm at Citysearch

Heard they had the 'best pad thai' around. Not true. Bland and had a fishy taste. Very nice people work there, but not worth the food, unfortunately.

Uninspiring

by jdseattle at Citysearch

Disappointing food. Ordered one of their star dishes, a seafood item. It arrived cold and not freshly cooked. The other two dishes we had lacked the intensity of flavors usually associate with Thai food. Pricey for the quality, but quantity was ample.

  • Pros: Waiter was very attentive, and immediately took back the seafood dish.
  • Cons: Food did not seem freshly prepared.

Wouldn't Seat us...

by Daniwesley at Citysearch

We stopped by Thursday night at 8:40pm looked at their window plenty of people inside, and and their hours said they were open until 9:30pm. They told us they were closed and couldn't seat us. Now I understand a lot of places stop seating a little before closing time but an entire hour is rediculous. If they want to be out the door at 9:30 then they should say they close at 9:30 they should say they close at 8:00.

  • Pros: Their salad rolls and pineapple rice
  • Cons: Service, Attitude

Terrible service & fishy tasting food!

by aquarius81 at Citysearch

As someone who loves Thai food -it is my favorite and I try to eat it as often as I can, I was excited to check out this restaurant, after hearing good reviews from others. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Beau Thai for a nice dinner before our move, and were terribly disappointed with not only the service, but the food as well. I will admit, the salad rolls were good (seems to be the common opinion) but my entree left much to be desired. I ordered the same sweet basil with tofu dish that I typically order at any Thai restaurant, but this time, it tasted very fishy, like there was too much fish or oyster sauce in the dish. Also, the basil in the dish tasted like cleaning product. Not a very good combination. Needless to say, I only ate a tiny bit -enough to figure out that the tastes were very strange and pinpoint what they were. Also, for a medium spicy dish (my usual), the entree left my mouth on fire and my nose running to the point where I had to excuse myself to go to the bathroom and get some tissues. This whole time, no one came by the table to check on our food or offer us refills on our glasses of water, which were long gone after being poured as we sat down to eat (and after the spicy food). My boyfriend ordered the crispy crepe dish and requested tofu for his meal, but when the dish arrived, he had chicken and shrimp in his crepe instead. We waited for ages for anyone to come and clear our table and bring our bill, which was much too pricey for the food and service we received. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant, nor will I ever go back to give it a second chance.

  • Pros: salad rolls & peanut sauce
  • Cons: bad service, too much fish sauce, staff doesn't listen and are inattentive,

Food is OK, but the service is either great or terrible

by YipKanker at Citysearch

Another reviewer mentioned that they were pushed out the door; the exact same thing happened to me! It must be the same waitress, but since it is a family run business don't count on that person moving on. If you get the right staff the service is great, but if not then look out!

On my most recent visit we had a decent meal, but it was long because the waitress brought the wrong food and had to go back to the kitchen and order the right dish. So the person who had the wrong dish had to watch the rest of us eat. When we had finished our meal we were getting ready to leave but were still winding down our conversation. The waitress came over and said "We are trying to close if you don't mind...". We weren't too put off because we were getting ready to go anyway, but it seemed odd since there were a few other tables and they weren't asked to leave. Its not as if we were the last ones there.

That was my third visit to the place and I haven't decided if I'll give them another chance yet. I live nearby but there are several other Thai restaurants in NW (Typhoon is one). The food at Beau Thai is good, but if I'm going out to eat, I don't need a side order of attitude with my peanut sauce.

  • Pros: Good food, decent prices
  • Cons: Service is either great or awful. Do ya feel lucky?

THE BEST

by LogicalChefTechnique at Citysearch

All I have to say is that I am a professional chef and I have been to this restaurant over thirty times and it has been excellent each and every time. They have the best salad rolls and peanut sauce in town. The thai chilli jam is made in house and is hot a delicious! Get anything. Extra spicy of coarse.

  • Pros: Awesome Thai Food
  • Cons: Bad Parking

Poor Customer Service

by twotraveling at Citysearch

My friends and I entered the restaurant at 9:00pm with a warm welcome and a quiet atmosphere. We were hungry and ready to order. Our server initially was pleasant, but seemed rushed. Once our food arrived, we didn't have any complaints, and enjoyed our meal as we had a fun conversation. 3/4 of the way through our meal, the waitress stated, "Not to be rude, but we want to close our Visa machine so we can go. Are you paying cash or credit? Can I have your card now?" It was a little after closing time at that time. We gave her our card and finished our meal. During that time, the wait staff was standing over us, watching our last bites and pushing us out the door. Keeping in mind, this was not long after they closed the doors to any new customers. The waitress grabbed our leftovers from the table, put them in a bag for us and handed them to us and pushed us out the door. A friend had to use the bathroom before we left, which seemed to inconvenience her. We left willingly, knowing we would never be back. There are plenty of good restaurants in Portland. I know the owner of River and Sushi is always welcoming customers in for a late meal and is very friendly. I don't recommend going here if you plan on a later dinner, when they are closing. I will NEVER return to Beau Thai!

  • Pros: nice neighborhood, decent food
  • Cons: service

Excellent Service and great food!

by Jenny15X at Citysearch

I have to disagree with some of the other posters... one of the things that keeps my boyfriend and I going back to Beau Thai is their staff, who are consistantly warm and sweet. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the prices are reasonable. The garlic chicken dish is delicious and the spring rolls are our favorite in Portland!

  • Pros: Staff, atmosphere, salad rolls!
  • Cons: Parking!

Don't believe any reviews--Try it yourself. The best Thai food in town

by thanyaluk at Citysearch

Beau Thai is my favorite restaurant. Being away from home (Thailand), it is a treat to come to Beau Thai. Authentic ingredients, generous portion, great menu. Try it yourself. The restuarant gets busy because of the great food/popularity. That might compromise the service, but it is sure worth it.
