Great place to enjoy a lovely dinner. Patio is small, but lovely especially during spring/sommer months.
Worth it

Going to Paley's is like being invited to the Governor's for dinner: You're going to have a fabulous meal in a homey environment. I have to admit that Paley's surprised me-- I was expecting another overhyped disgruntled-chef-gone-solo venture, but was I wrong. My wife and I had a memorable evening together, including the best paella I've ever tasted. And, despite limited seating, I never felt cramped or rushed by the wait staff, who were both helpful and gracious. The old Victorian that houses Paley's is a perfect setting for its NW location. Certainly one of Portland's best, and one of the few worthy of the bill.

Had dinner there Saturday night...was one of the best meals I ever had...in a league with the best in town. The duck confit was absolutely perfect with a potato side that had an eclectic mix of spices that reeked of thyme, marjoram, lavender etc. Spouse had a teriffic halibut cheek dish in a light red wine sauce. Service was attentive, wine list was broad with some very reasonably priced selections. It's there with Wildwood, Genoa and Castagna as our favorite in PDX. Don't go for the atmosphere..although it is OK...the food is the focus here.
The best restaurant in Portland

I love this place - whether it be the friendly service, the incredible food, or the relaxing atmosphere, Paleys is tops on my list for dining out in Portland. And don't miss the mussels!

Equaling its reputation in my opinion. Great ambience, attentive service and the food was delicous. Save room for dessert.

Our recent dining experience was extraordinary. From the begining phone call to the desert, no detail was amiss. We'll be back often.
- Pros: Knowledgable service, Great Food, Best deserts in town
- Cons: Can't try everything

BAD EXPERIENCE! Lost my voice due to a medical conditon and was trying to plan a surprise night out for my husband's birthday. (also live 80 miles away). Emailed both Paley's Place and hotel to make reservations, explaining the situation. Long story short, Paley's emailed me several times to tell me that there was no way they would help me by email, I had to call. I even offered to have someone in my office call but they wanted to talk to ME to know "if we were on the same page"!! After a week of hassles I was stuck in Portland on a busy Friday with no reservations and no voice. MANY THANKS TO INN AT NORTHRUP STATION for making the calls for me and getting us into a more accomodating restaurant!! P.P. was completely indifferent and made it clear that rules were more important than customer needs!
- Cons: never got reservation, rude and indiferent, BAD PUBLIC RELATIONS
Hey Chef, try the kitchen!!

My wife and I took our niece and nephew for a night out to paleys place a few nights back. after feeling like an inconvienience at the door, and finally being sat, we waited another twenty minutes to get any orders taken. After they finally came, the dry, salty halibut I had was not worth sending back. Then the dessert wait!!!!! I would have eaten my bill with whip cream if they would have given it to me,,,, meanwhile I see the chef yaking it up at the bar for 15 minutes while we twiddle our thumbs, next time We stay downtow!!!!!!! no thanks - PALEYS WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!
- Cons: thanks for nothing!
perfect night out!

I truly believe that this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The food is magnificant, (try the mussels and french fries) and the wines are delectable. But, the real treat is listening to the waitress describe in complete detail the food items. We were told, where the food came from, how it is prepared, and what wines she recommends. It was all spectacular and it creates a prefect night out.
- Pros: cozy, itimate, delicous
Excellent Food!

Want a great meal that won't break the bank? You must get the fried oysters anyway they fix them. They're out of this world!
