Harlem Nights Thursdays

by thirddonjuan

I highly suggest you check out Harlem Nights on Thursdays, It is unlike any experience I have had as far as cultural, performing artists in Portland. There is a variety unlike any I have seen. The bar makes stiff drinks I can say that!! The performers are 10++++++ The cover is only 3$ and its worth more in my opinion! You should seriously check out a new experience and go to the Ohm on Thursdays!!

  • Pros: Incredible performers, stiff drinks, cheap cover, polite staff, friendly atmosphere
  • Cons: dirty bathrooms

the place for spoken word!!!

by deepinksynergy

great atmosphere. there is usually a live painter painting during the performance and she is AMAZING! The poetry is also exceptional. they've changed the time. the doors now open at 8pm and they are hosting an open mic from 830 - 930 until the featured show starts at 930. the cover is $3. the bartender makes great drinks. overall it was a wonderful experience. and it's probably the most culture you will find in portland in one place too. of the performers there was native americans, hawaiins, african americans, chinese, young, old, basically people from all walks of life brought together by art. pretty sweet. a must see.

  • Pros: spoken word, cost, atmosphere, drinks, live art
  • Cons: none

Brilliant Spoken word on Thursday nights. Diverse scene of inellectuals and performers!

by 30g

If you write poetry, rap or sing this is the scene for you. The one place in Portland where it feels like D.C. OR N.Y.

Come listen or share! The poetry usually starts around 10 and goes till 1am.

And the cover charge is 5.00 or free if you are performing a piece.

  • Pros: Spoken word and a jive band called The Black Notes
  • Cons: Sometimes a small crowd as if Portland doesnt have poets?

The Friday nights are Fresh!

by djpuma

When you are looking for a great place to dance, mix and mingle, I highly recommend going their Fridays. The people are friendly and looking sharp, the music is trendy and the drinks are superb. They always have enough people staffed for quick service and parking is only a block away. The Dj's play Hip-hop, R&B, Mash-ups, Current Hits and occasionally take you back with some great tracks from the 80's and 90's. The downside is they do allow smoking and it can be a bit much, but the outdoor patio is a great way to refresh from all of that. All in all this is one of the best places to party in the city. You can let loose and let yourself be free. It's also conveniently located in Portland's historic entertainment district by the waterfront. Definitely a spot to put on your list for a club crawl or club hopping. The ohm has been around for along time and it will be around for many successful years to come.

  • Pros: Great People, Fun atmosphere, Great music
  • Cons: Smoking

NOT A TECHO PLACE SCENE----RAP AND HIP-HOP ONLY!!!

by portlandclubber

This place says that they focus on electonica based music, techno, and housebeats with a live dj. This is a lie. It was just like any other hip-hop club. With ONLY that style of music. I did not see even one raver, only a lot of black people. Saturday nights must be rap nights with recorded music; not a dj-----which would have been fine if it was techo or housebeats or anything other than what it was. I was not impressed with the fact that we couldve gone anywhere for that type of music and payed a lot less.

  • Pros: REALLY strong drinks
  • Cons: i hate rap and hip-hop and you will be asked to get off the couches if your not vip and there is no where else to sit!

It was lame

by thepooh

We went there for a friend's birthday. I saw a lot of old friends from high school there, which was kinda neat. te music was ok... mostly hip hop. Atmoshere wasnt bad. Paid $10 for cover and $3 for coat check. Cocktails were $6. I love cocktails and the bartenders couldn't make a few drinks i wanted like mojito or nutty irshman. The scooby snack i got was chunky and gross. I went to a different bar tender and a for black or white?? russian...i asked if i can get more cream or milk and he dumped more vodka in my drink. That was nice, but i didn't want more alcohol in my drink. Somehow towards later in the night, water was no longer free, but $2 a bottle. The dance floor wasn't too crowded. I smelt horrible afterwards because smoking was allowed.

  • Pros: not that crowded, not much of line
  • Cons: smoking allowed, poor drinks, music.

This dark, cavernous nightclub strives to raise your consciousness to a higher level.

by Contributor

In Short
This large vault-like space lurks beneath the Burnside Bridge in Old Town. Brick archways give the room a a riverfront warehouse feeling. These days, live music and DJs get the place pulsing. It's a regular downtown stop for rockers, scenesters and ravers alike. The space boasts two bars, lounge-style conversation areas and a narrow courtyard out back with a meditation pool--a little pond with a Buddha statue.

Beware

by missbb

I can only say BEWARE......hang onto your drink!!!

This seems to be one of the themes of this establishment's nightly frolicks. I literally watched as one of the local crowd picked up another other patrons drink and run off. I have been to this place twice and both times have had at least a dozen drinks accousted. I even tried to chase down one of the petty thieves, ugh!!!! So hang on to your drinks and pocketbooks, they are fast OH! and thirsty....:)

I was disappointed

by michele213

My boyfriend and I went to Ohm a couple of weekends ago for my birthday, the club was recommended by a friend of ours. After spending $20 to get in, $10 on 2 mixed drinks, $6 on 2 beers and $4 on parking, it was so not worth going. The place had a very dark feel, obviously it was dark because it's a club, but just the aura of the place was very dark, we were there for a little over an hour and the place never got busy, no one was dancing, the music was pretty much the same thing all night, the same beat, the staff was very nice but the other people who showed up weren't friendly at all. I used to be in the rave scene and this definetly was not it!!! I will not go back there again.

  • Pros: Not very crowded, Lots of seating
