After reading many of the reviews posted here about the Ringside, I had my doubts regarding the decor, the staff, the wait time and such things. All proved to be inaccurate on my first visit to this landmark steakhouse. We went on a Tuesday night (considered by some to be a 'foodie' night as opposed to the weekend crowds). Our reservation was for 7:30 and we arrived at 7 - fully expecting to be routed to the bar to wait. We were seated within 5 min. The staff was cordial and inviting, the atmosphere a proper level of darkness - I even brought a flashlight for my lady since she needs more light as a rule but it wasn't needed. Our wait person was knowledgeable about the food and the wine as well as friendly. The food, however was a mixed bag. The steaks were delicious, but the peppercorn sauce was odd and tasted out of a mix. The asparagus was tender but only down half the stem - the rest was like eating bamboo. Does the chef not eat his own food? The garlic mashed were outstanding, the wine was delicious - the dessert had a great presentation and taste, but I really think it was not made there. No Oregon ice cream with the dessert, but inferior Hagen Dazs instead - the bread was wonderful, but served cold. It was an evening of one step forward and one back. I dropped over $100 on the meal and I truly feel that I have had better for less. The good things are really good but the 'bad' things were pretty questionable. Will I go back? At this point, I'm not sure. Probably I'll return to Ruth's Chris.
TOO OVER PRICED! WAITER RUDE. TOO DARK INSIDE

This place is too dark inside. Maybe so you don't see the fat in your steak. Our waiter was very unpleasant and rude (grumpy old man) maybe because we did not look like we had money. $50 steaks are too fatty. Bone in steaks are suppose to be the best. Half of our steaks were fat. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Ruth Chris is alot better. I think this place is over rated and the employee's should not be wearing tuxedo's.
Best Steaks in town!!!

I love going to the Ringside for the best steak in town! Friendly people with just the right atmosphere! I know that there are others in town that try to compare, but they don't quite reach the mark when it comes to the overall review. The Ringside staff remember your name, their prices are great...and sometimes that corner booth in the lounge is a nice place to just hang out!
E Coli outbreak closes Kauai Island Grill temporarily

This has always been my favorite for Hawaiian food, and then I see this on Channel 6 news that they are closing my favorite place. It's getting to the point, that it's too dangerous to eat out anymore. Here at Trimet, we have had many or our drivers who have patronized that place over the years. Good luck to you guys and I hope you recover from this bad event. But for now I am going to have to give you a one star. According to regional health authorities, the recent E.Coli outbreak in Portland, Oregon, which has seen a rising number of people (130) falling victim to it, could be put down to a produce supplier who unknowingly distributed contaminated produce in the commercial market.
While, investigation is underway, the health authorities have not identified any supplier so far, nor have they confirmed any single product as a source of the outbreak. Though, Dr. Monir Taha, the associate medical officer for the Portland public h@alth dep@rtment says lettuce is the most common food patients reporting symptoms of the food borne illness reveal having eaten. - Pros: Great in almost everyway
- Cons: E Coli shuts down restaurant

This is my favorite Steak house in the area. The prime rib is awesome. The prices are not as high as some of the places downtown but the food is just as good. The staff is friendly and inviting. They send out coupons for your birthday and anniversary if you get on their mailing list and this really helps with the bill.
Good solid steakhouse

I went here with my husband and father, both enjoy a good steak. They were pleased with the quality of the meat and the taste. I was informed if it needs to have sauce, it is not good. I say this because I am a vegetarian and usually am a litte short changed at a steakhouse ( broccoli and a baked potato -rah) Not here ! I asked for a vegetable plate and they made me a platter with several yummy vegetables. Love that customer service ! I do not think you will be disappointed.
- Pros: Great customer service
Overpriced for what you get

We were on a quest for best steak in town. We went to Ringside after seeing their ad in the paper. We ended up getting a full priced steak instead of the $29.95 special. The portions were very small and the potato was definetly reheated. I know because I asked. We were on the patio and were pretty much left on our own after the order got to tthe table. For two steak dinners and no alcohol, our ticket came to over $80.
You would think that was the end of our experience. No, two weeks late we ended up back there in the dining room. This place is pretty, don't get me wrong, but the food is outrageously priced. My husband wanted to try the special because that steak is not on their regular menu. So, we went for the coupon priced food. I didn't want the sauce they put on the flat iron steak and requested it on the side. THe waitress was a middle aged lady, who was extremely arrogant. She asked me if I ever had had a flat iron steak and that it needed the sauce.
Every time she served us, she would put the item on the edge between me and my husband and then tell me to move it. She had the whole rest of the table she could have used. But she had a remark for every single thing we ordered or asked for. We are normally 20% tippers, but she got around 10%.
Now, the flat iron steak I got tasted, "off" sort of sour. My husband opted for the sauce and I told him to taste the part that wasn't smothered, he did and said it tasted like soured meat or meat going bad.
Not a good experience. Believe me we have eaten enough steak to know. Everybody has different tastes, so I am not tell you to not go, I am just telling you the prices are EXTREME for what you get. The portions really are small and both times we ended up with kind of snotty waitresses. The hosts' at the front are super nice though, it is once you get to the table.
By the way a good steak to try is the Rib Eye at the Zig Zag Inn in Zig Zag on your way up the mountain.
Poor comunication fron the reservation desk

I made my reservation on 11-13-08 over the phone for my 26th anniversary. . I arrived at the Burnside location, valet my car, stood in the entrance for about 5 minutes. A pretty lady asked my name then checked the computer for my reservation. Another gentleman approached me and stated The person that took the reservation over the phone did not make them for the burnside location. I stated I did not know there was another location as I always ate here. I asked if they could correct the mistake. I was told no it would be an hour wait to seat my wife and I. But they could save the reservation for the other location. I declined. I then left quite mad as they ruined my anniversary at this point , it was 7:17 in the evening and I had to find another place to eat . I was driving east down burnside trying to decide where to go. I used my wife?s gps to find my next destination. I called the London grill at the Benson hotel to see if they had a table. The answer was yes . I was pleasantly surprise the food was much better, the service was impeccable. If anyone has the same problem you know where to go

- Pros: close to home
- Cons: fail to take responsability for their reservation desk
Amazing Steak, Good service

My husband and I just moved to Portland from Texas. We have had our fair share of good prime steaks, so we decided to try Ringside for my husband's birthday. He had the bone-in ribeye and I opted for the choice filet. I was hesitant to try the filet since it was not prime, but I was surprised at how flavorful it was. The choice filet was just as good as other prime filets I have had at different steakhouses. My husband said his ribeye was the best steak he has ever had. Like any other native Houstonians, we are pretty picky when it comes to our food. The service was a little slower than I would have preferred, but it was not a problem. Our waiter was very nice and told us all about the history of the restaurant. it was a great experience, and we will be back many more times.
- Pros: Great steak, many steak choices, great special occasion restaurant
- Cons: Service can be a little slow sometimes, a little dim inside

This is a classic restaurant. Old style and sophisticated. I love a good steak and you can definitely find it here. There are other options too if your tastes do not favor a steak. The service was exceptional.
