nothing pleasant about it
by fishberryjam at Citysearch
My partner and I stopped in for brunch with high hopes. 1st ~ we were ignored while waiting for a table 2nd ~ we had to send back dirty dishes 3rd ~ the food, while edible, was not tasty. Mine was tepid; hers was crusted over from sitting on the hot plate for too long 4th ~ the atmosphere was sterile and uninspired. 5th ~ the music was too loud for nice conversation 6th ~ the server cleared our plates as soon as she could and brought our bill without even asking if we'd like anything else, dessert etc. And we were very kind to the waitress. I felt like We were waiting on Her. Ugh! I really don't get the rave reviews. I will NOT be going back.
- Pros: umm ... the walls are painted a pretty shade of pale yellow
- Cons: Mediocre or less in most every respect
Good Dessert Place
by oneangryraisin at Citysearch
I have only tried the lunch menu several times, and the food, while good, didn't leave a lasting impression. The desserts, however, are different and decadent. I almost feel guilty strolling into this place in the late hours just to devour a slice of buttermilk chocolate cake, but the guilt soon subsides. Skip the meal and come here for dessert and wine. A bit of clarification: 5 stars for dessert; overall is 4 stars.
Don't expect good service out on the terrace.

A friend and I wanted to have a nice dinner and also felt like sitting outside in the beautiful courtyard. I felt like money was no object that evening... and to my disappointment the experience was not what I was expecting for such a popular and well-loved restaurant. The service started out great... until we realized the only focus from our server was the LARGE 15-20 top table to our left. Everyone that sat down after us ordered first, food took FOREVER (but was delicious), had to ask for coffee refills and another glass of wine. Everyone around us was returning food, standing up and filling their waters from the server station, canceling orders and probably feeling just as unimportant as we felt. Maybe next time I come with 12 of my friends and hope for good service then!
- Pros: Great location, beautiful outdoor patio
- Cons: Poor service.
Disappointing sunday brunch
by eatnow2007 at Citysearch
I went there last weekend for sunday brunch, and it was a very disappointing experience. Chorizo scramble was very dry and plain, no veggies, no nothing, only couple pieces of peppers mixed in, and breakfast potatoes were undercooked. They've also changed their potatos from regular house potatoes to large cubes of something partially boiled and then quickly fried, they were aweful! I will not go there for brunch for a long time.
A must for those with a sweet tooth
by deliciojones at Citysearch
I've eaten lunch and dinner here on several occasions and found the food to be tasty, the service friendly, and the overall experience satisfying. The food isn't particularly innovative, (i.e. a chicken sandwich on fococcia) but it's hearty, generously portioned, priced fairly, and well executed. And since it must be mentioned..... most of the desserts live up to the hype!
- Pros: Desserts for days
GREAT Service!!!
by greek541 at Citysearch
Went in for an after dinner drink and something for the sweet-tooth and boy was I impressed. Our waiter Jacob, was one of the most professional waiters I've ever been served by. He was very educated on the menu, suggesting we try the banana cream pie. He also was able to recommend a very nice scotch to wash down our tasty treat. We enjoyed a piece of their homemade new york style cheesecake as well. Everything was delicious. We will be going back soon for sure.
A great experience for me and the "mama" at Papa Haydn.
- Pros: the service (jacob)
- Cons: a little pricy
Delicious

It's been awhile since I had eaten at Papa Haydn and I forgot what a great place it is. I had the roasted squash salad and for $11, it was a terrific and filling meal. Of course, saved room for dessert and the only bad part was trying to decide. I couldn't afford the calories to eat here all the time, but it's tried and true when you need a sure thing.
- Pros: Dessert, value
- Cons: Ambiance is a little stark
Only go for dessert
by makeitgood at Citysearch
Fun place to meet . . . for dessert and coffee. I wouldn't have lunch or dinner here again. Too little for too much money. I had a great piece of salmon that was delicious, but felt ripped off since it didn't come with anything but some sprouts and the equivilent to half of a tiny red potato chopped up on a giant plate. It seemed soooooooo 23rd avenue. My husband's ravioli was below average. He had plenty of room for dessert. My suggestion is to go somewhere else and share one large portion of food then go to papa haydn and go crazy with dessert and coffee.
- Pros: desserts, atmosphere
- Cons: small parking lot often full, small entree portions
Dessert, Dessert, Dessert

- Pros: Dessert!!!
Surprisingly dull desserts, but with good service
by nicholelily at Citysearch
I have heard rave upon rave about the desserts here for several years. I have even made my own version of the Boccone Dolce, which is one of my favorite desserts. Sadly, the one here and the few other desserts we sampled were so overly sugared that no other tastes came thru. The wine (Merlot) and service were great, very nice and attentive staff.
- Pros: service, attentive and gracious wait staff
- Cons: overly sweet desserts, no longer the best desserts in town
