Empty restaurants don't bode well. My husband and I stopped here during lunch time. One woman walked in right ahead of us, making us the only three people in the entire restaurant. The hostess/waitress was extremely rude, slamming our menus down and saying, "you two, sit here!" while she took the other lady to her table. My water had broccoli floating in it, and after the waitress replaced it, she became a little nicer. I got the broccoli beef (I always order this at Chinese places) and my husband got the chicken lo mein. Unbeknownst to us, both dishes came with spring rolls, and she didn't mention that when we ordered a side of them, of course ($2.95 for two 3 inch long spring rolls struck me as a rip-off considering the price of the entrees). The food came about 3 minutes later, which some people might consider a good thing, but it obiously wasn't freshly prepared and who knows how long it had been since anyone had been in the restaurant. The food was pretty good, mall-ish food, but I was expecting the portions to be large like they usually are at other Chinese places (where they charge the same price but you get much more food), so my husband and I could share, which we couldn't really do in the end. They were served just like a regular entree. Another group came in while we were eating (so about 6 people in the restaurant total), and they had to go to the front desk and tell the waitress their egg rolls were cold inside because she didn't come by and ask how the food was. We also had to go up to the counter to pay after leaving the debit card on the table for several minutes (we were sitting about 6 feet from the front desk where two people were standing).  View Less View More

Good Chinese and Friendly Service!. We've been going to August Moon for over 5 years and have always had a good experience! Both their food and service are consistently good. We like the Broccoli Beef, Chicken Fried Rice, Cashew Chicken and Sweet & Sour Chicken... it's always made to order. They have comfy booths and a nice view of 23rd Avenue through nice asian lanterns. The take-out is quick, only about 15 minutes.

They actually have a free parking lot on 23rd, which is a rare find in Nob Hill!  View Less

Consistantly good. Portland is a town that loves its Thai/Vietnamese/Cambodian, etc, so after moving here it took quite a while to find good Chinese. Now, there are many kinds of Chinese food, and I'm pretty picky. I prefer the San Francisco style, which is not authentic Chinese from China but there you have it. It's what I like, and it's what I finally found at August Moon after a long, sad search of almost a year. These are the flavors I grew up on as a kid and are therefore my comfort food: lo mein, fried rice, egg rolls, and especially egg drop soup. This is the best egg drop soup in town, hands down. It's flavorful, the perfect consistency (not too watery, not too thick) and doesn't have extra "stuff" in it to mess with the utter simplicity of the soup. We've also been pleased to find white meat chicken in a number of dishes, something very unusual in Chinese takeout (if you're going to deep-fry it and cover it with sauce anyway, why use the more expensive white meat, right?) They are always fast with sit-down orders and with takeout, but I wouldn't recommend getting delivery during peak dinner hours on weekends--they don't have many drivers and if someone gets lost the wait time can be much longer than quoted. I have no idea what one of the other reviewers was saying about a rude waitress--most of the staff don't even have a firm grasp of the language (hard to be a smart aleck when you don't speak the language well), and I've always found them perfectly courteous.  View Less View More

My favorite in Portland. I'm surprised by the negative reviews. I've eaten here over a dozen times and have never had a bad experience, though I've never had delivery. The food is my favorite Chinese in Portland, especially the Kung Pao. Sure, it's not very spicy, but have you ever had off-the-menu stuff that was? You gotta spice it up yourself if you like it that way, or ask them to do it. Everything else I've had there has been great as well.  View Less View More

overpriced, nasty chinese food. I can't believe any of the good reviews. The food was nasty and waitress was a smart a$$. I asked what's in the shrimp szechuan and she answered sarcastically: shrimp. No way that the food is fresh, we were served couple minutes after we ordered. And the price is way high. It is a disgrace to Chinese food, and those who think it is the best Chinese food they had, they are missing out a lot on good food. Sorry.  View Less View More

Great Delivery. We frequently order delivery from August Moon and are surprised every time by how fast they are (and that's to the Sylvan/Forest Heights area, not downtown). The food is quite good. I've tried several of my favorite standard dishes at this point and all have been very well prepared. There are some interesting things on the menu too. We've become fond of the Lamb Szechuan Style. I'd never seen lamb on a Chinese menu before...  View Less View More

Excellant quick delivery service, open all the time. Very friendly staff.. We have used August Moon for many years as our family's favorite local Chinese restaurant. The staff is always nice and their delivery service is outstanding. We love Mongolian beef, the House Special Fried Rice and Sweet and Sour Shrimp (they put the sauce on the side, which is nice). I have tried many other Chinese restaurants all over the country, this one is consistently good.  View Less View More

Won Tons Rock. Sally and her tribe rock this place. I especially love their pork lo-mein and chicken fried rice. Portions are a good size and food is served hot and quick.

I rarely ever have to wait on a take away order.  View Less

Poor Customer Service. We ordered our food at 6.30pm and were told that it would be 45 minutes. After 50 minutes, we gave them a call and they said that they were busy that it would be 20 more minutes. So we waited 30 more minutes to give them a call, and the host on the phone had no idea who we were! We gave our address and explained our order and she said that we should have received it a while ago and that she will call us right back. She calls us right back to say that it will be 20 more minutes!!! My husband asked her, isn't out food going to be cold? At that point we were thinking of canceling our order. However the delivery guy showed up and it was 8.15pm!! We ended up waiting 1h45 for our food which came lukewarm!! The hostess on the phone was inconsiderate and impolite! We can understand that it was the day before Thanksgiving but they shouldn't take more than they can handle!!!And thats not all: while eating,my husband found a piece of glass in his beef lo mein CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? Where did that come from???? Well, we won't order there again, the food is decent but definitively not worth it!!!  View Less View More
