Best hot pastrami sandwich I've ever had
by CSMobileUser
Look. This is simple. Better than Kenny and zukes. Pastrami is like butter. Eat it then just try to enjoy hot pastrami anywhere else. Customer for life here. Try the corned beef and pastrami combo on their rolls also. Heaven.
Absolutely Most Surly Service

Can I give it zero stars? I'm motivated by a horrible experience my family and I had. We brought out of town visitors who wanted a bagel and Schmear. Ok. The place was not busy, 2 servers. They treated us like garbage, walked away twice, as we ordered Bagels and coffee...most of which had apparently been sold out, but unbeknownst to us, and no help from the server. Not even a New York style mean, or attitude, but just goofy. We couldn't figure it out. Always 2 sides to these I know, but truly no pre-malice on our side. Not going back there in the future. There are too many better places to eat and go in Portland. Rose's Deli down the street?
- Pros: Bagels OK to good when you can get them.
- Cons: Service Lousy, and mean
Real Deli Sandwiches
by JohnPre
Why dosn't Portland have more high quality delis? So many places that call themselves delis are really just turning out cheaply made sandwiches.
Kornblatt's offers real food with real taste. Sure the prices are a little higher but you get much more quality. Their Reubens and Pastrami sandwiches are very good and just plain taste better than what you get anywhere else in Portland. Even Rose's can't compare.
Absolutely Fabulous Breakfasts
by PDXTown33
A great NW Portland find serving amazing breakfasts, bagels, desserts and more. Friendly service, delious and healthy size food portions. Highly reccommened and worth the effort to find a parking space somewhere on 23rd.
- Pros: Excellent Food..!
- Cons: Parking
Closest thing to a NY Deli in Portland ...

If they made their own Pastrami and Corned Beef, It would be GREAT. As it is, its Good. Tasty Food, a bit pricey but not too bad. Worth a try and then decide if you're into it.
Sandwiches were great

I had to comment on review by 'spankycrissy'. There is a line for tables at this place because they have good food. If you order 'to go' - then GO. You took a table from someone that was waiting in line, that is called 'cutting in line', so get over it.
I went here for lunch yesterday, the service could be better, too few wait people. The pickles that were promised when we ordered did not come until our food (which took a reasonable amount of time). That said, the hoagie that I had the Rueben that my companion had were superb! If it is summertime and you want lunch, go early, this place is not that big. I would probably pass on sitting outside, you are right on the sidewalk and are more likely to catch your waitperson inside. Had to ask for the check, but that is no reason to not go and enjoy a tasty meal!
- Pros: Great food, large sandwiches
- Cons: Servers are busy and now how to avoid eye contact - so authenticly New York!
the service bites

I have been to Kornblats a few times with my wife and on business lunches.
Most times the waiters are rude but the last time we were treated like trash.
The last time we stopped in to grab a dozen bagels and a couple of coffees to go was a week ago.
It was a busy morning and all of the inside tables were full so we asked for a couple of coffees an bagels to go and took them outside to the sidewalk.
There was an open bench so we decided to sit down and eat our bagel.
The waiter was incensed he didn't like us sitting at that table even though we had just spent 20 bucks on food.
I could have written that nasty exchange off to a guy having a bad day but then the cook shoved his head out the window and yelled at us.
HAY! I THOUGHT YOU GOT THAT STUFF TO GO!!
I shot back with WE DID, WE ARE SITTING OUTSIDE AREN?T WE?
I know that it was all about the line that was forming inside waiting for tables.
And a waiter that didn't get a tip.
But we won't be back and I will not recommend it.
Part of the restaurant experience is the service, we were treated like dirt.
by the way, I am an engineer and we were dressed well.
and up to that moment we were in good mood and having a great day.
By the way it was my wife?s birthday, thanks for nothing you jerks.
Bad Reuben
by notyeti
The Reuben sandwich I had here is among the worst I have ever had. Somehow, based on the price - almost $10! and the atmosphere of the place I thought I was in for a treat. What i got was a very soggy sandwich on very thin low-quality supermarket rye bread- the kind made for people who don't really like rye bread. It compressed to nothing, so it was very hard to hold onto the sandwich. There was no pickle. What was most laughable was the accompanying macaroni salad. It was odd and grainy and it was served in one of those little tiny paper cups that New Seasons uses when they give out samples. It could not hold much more than a tablespoon. My companion had a bagel with some sort of cream cheese and vegetable spread and a bowl of soup. The bagel was bready and dry and the soup was bland. Many "less authentic" places around twon than this serve a much better and more authentic Reuben - for much less.
They have good days and Bad...
by greenbar
After the orginal Roses went down Kornblatt's was about it for a true Deli. But they have had many bad days as of late. I agree Sandwich's should be piled high and meats should be hot and fresh. Salads should also be fresh not sitting out. In fact my wife got sick after eating the potato salad last time which she said was not chilled.
They were the best orginal deli around for a long time but now it seems they have gone downhill. I hope they turn it around.
Oy vey!

I don't get why we can't get a Jewish deli in this city. To be fair, even in New York City, the more famous
ones like Carnegi, Stage or Katz's are sorry, rude tourist traps and you have to go to the residential
neighborhoods to find the real mccoy. First of all, to rave about a Jewish deli's Reuben sandwiches or Philly
cheese steaks is irrational--you can't mix meat and dairy in the same dish so they are not deli foods and no
authentic deli offers these things. The bagels are not magnificent and do not resemble the real thing either.
They are too big, too doughy and have no bite to them.
The meat sandwiches should consist of meat on rye bread with mustard. If you want it another way, then put the restaurant in a different category although I have no idea of what that would be. They do not offer the baked knishes which are superior, but the square fried kind which are tasteless and mushy. I asked them where they got them from and they replied "Coney Island." That's a pretty broad answer, as informative as saying something is from Gresham.
Nothing is flavorful or interesting or real so it is a big let-down to anyone who's experienced the real cuisine.
The service is not brusque or rude which is inauthentic too but probably preferable.
It seems that a lot of the problem stems from their wanting to cater to a broader set of tastes, but is still doesn't taste very good.
- Cons: Food not good nor authentic, parking
