The quality doesn't justify the service

This place is indeed a landmark of Northwest Portland, and exemplifies the area well. The servers are elitist and pretentious and feel that they can be rude to you because you should be grateful they're allowing you the opportunity to eat their pizza. This isn't SoupNazi quality stuff we're talking about here. The pizza is ok, but you can get virtually exactly the same pie at Dante's without the attitude.
Even though I live seven blocks from the place, I still go out of my way to eat elsewhere.
- Pros: A decent slize of pizza
- Cons: Assholishness for the sake of assholishness

How can you describe the perfect slice of Pizza? Is there anything better? Escape From New York is the only place I've visited in Portland that offers an authentic NY Slice. Perfect crust, perfect sauce, plenty of cheese. Even a little spicy NY attitude with your order. It's a glorious thing.
- Pros: Perfect Pizza By The Slice
- Cons: None

Here's the deal. I went into this place for a long time because they serve a good pie. I will never go in there again due to an experience I had fairly recently. After I got my slice I tipped $1.00. It slid in a gap between the two counters where you pay. The person behind the counter said to me, "you know what we call that?" I replied with a smirk thinking that it was no big deal. The person replied "a dumb f@#k/" You people who work their make a great product. Maybe in the future you should hold back on your themed NY attitude that you may think is cute in this city, but I hope your pizza place doesn't do well in the future because your customer service is seriously lacking!
Where's the sauce?

This has always been my favorite pizza in Portland. With so many bad pizza joints in this town, this was always my Salvation when I get the craving. I haven't been there in years and stopped my the other day .Where's the sauce?????????? It looks like they're going the same old route of "a slice of cheese bread" like every other average joint . Please give us more sauce like the old days!!!
Great tasting, authentic

Recently moved here and so happy to find this place. Crust is crispy and thin, sauce is so good I actually wanted more - that never happens! Toppings so plentiful they almost collapse the box. Best Value Ever - a large 3 topping pizza - 8 Giant slices was $20.70. Go quickly and enjoy the best !
- Pros: Best overall for taste, quality and value
- Cons: One slice fills you up

I'm from Brooklyn, Mom's Sicillain ... THIS is THE bomb ! Best tasting thin crust in town. Its so good, so real, that I usually just order a couple of slices 'plain'. Great Pizza doesn't need to be "loaded" up to give it taste and character.
Ol' Carl has been serving the best "slice and a drink" in the city for 20 + years now. Kudos my friend, KUDOS. Keep up the Good Work.
Quit your complaining

This is the best pizza in portland. I was reading the bad reviews and the people writing them are a bunch of sissy's! You don't walk into a little whole in the wall expecting people to be your best friend. I'm sorry, but the world does not revolve around prissy little jerks that think they can get some fancy pants pizza wherever they want.
I have been hundreds of times and never had a problem. You walk in, tell them what you want, give em your money, and eat or leave! Why do you have to make small talk? Why do you have ask if they have chicken alfredo pizza with fresh gorgonzola? If it's not very busy, you can push your luck with a few remarks, but for the most part, just shut up and enjoy your pizza so we can all be happy.
I love Escape from New York Pizza! I love ALL the people that work there! I will eat there till I die!!
- Pros: SERVICE, food
- Cons: my stomach is too small

Best tasting pizza in the NW! The name says it all, escape from NY. The emloyees are a little snoody and pretentious, and they act like they're doing you a favor by making you a pizza though. But the pizza is so excellent, you forget about how ridicuous they were when you leave. I would reccomend this place to anyone!
- Pros: Best Pizza in the world
- Cons: Rude Emloyees
Best Pizza outside of NYC!!!!

I had the opportunity to live in NYC last summer and I remember this pizza joint on the corner of West 45th & 9th Avenue. The guys weren't very friendly either, but hey, its NYC...I found that people are rude who are from NYC, its not they try to be, its the way they are and people gotta realize that the staff at Escape from NY is giving the same service as you'd receive on the east coast...Don't be offended, thats the way it is, you tell them what you want and move on. I don't think the staff is terribly rude but the place is pretty busy so excuse them if they don't have time to chit chat. If you want a great staff and so so pizza, go to Chuck E Cheese, but if you want the best pizza in Portland, go to Escape to NY....Here is the standard procedure..
Walk in and say...Slice of Pepperoni (cheese or whatever they have) or whole (insert kind of pizza here). They already know your ordering a pizza so no need to say, Hi, I would like a pizza please...Chances are, they'll look at you and think, SERIOUSLY? No kiddin idiot.
Go for the experience and seriously, if you can't stand it, then take it to go....There ya go..
