It's just pizza...

by gretchy at Citysearch

It's pizza. It's not great. It's not terrible. Better than rocko's, worse than Schmizza. The staff is a bunch of jerks and their inability to take cards is annoying. They have good beers. Try it if you want, but there are 4 or 5 better places within walking distance. I think people are taking this whole authentic NY pizza stuff way way too seriously. Never trust someone who says you can't get a good slice outside of _____. It's ridiculous and they're obviously biased. For the most part, pizza is pizza. The pizza they serve here is just some pizza. Nothin special.

  • Pros: Cheap, Good beers.
  • Cons: Cash/Check only, Awful staff, mediocre pizza.

Best NY pizza outside of NY

by silvertail at Citysearch

I discovered Escape From New York Pizza years ago, when I came to visit my sister here in Portland. I was born in NY, and lived there for the first third of my life, as such I think I know what NY pizza should taste like. Now let me just say that, Escape From New York, is the closest thing I have ever tasted, to true NY pizza, anywhere in the country. I strongly recommend that anyone who is in the area, who desires NY pizza, eat here.

It's just like getting a slice in Soho.

Pizza fine, ethics not

by moo22 at Citysearch

The pizza is good, not amazing. I don't really want to go back because I heard one of the guys who works there (the owner, I think??) told a customer "we don't serve your kind of people here". It doesn't really matter what they were. Discrimination is not okay.

The quality doesn't justify the service

by acetracer at Citysearch

This place is indeed a landmark of Northwest Portland, and exemplifies the area well. The servers are elitist and pretentious and feel that they can be rude to you because you should be grateful they're allowing you the opportunity to eat their pizza. This isn't SoupNazi quality stuff we're talking about here. The pizza is ok, but you can get virtually exactly the same pie at Dante's without the attitude.

Even though I live seven blocks from the place, I still go out of my way to eat elsewhere.

  • Pros: A decent slize of pizza
  • Cons: Assholishness for the sake of assholishness

This is no NY pizza

by cybercin666 at Citysearch

What happened? We had not had EFNY Pizza in some time and decided to get a pie to go last week. We arrived on time and it wasn't ready. Okay, I'll let that go. I took my first bite and regretted it immediately. There is absolutely no flavor to this pizza anymore. Within two months their pizza went from ok to really bad. The dough had so much flour on the bottom, and the dough itself... well I would have rather eaten the cardboard box. The sauce no longer has any flavor either. Now I know authentic NY pizza and I know most pizzerias put cheese in their sauce, or have a special flavoring... I'm certain they've removed any flavor. Oh, and the prices went up. We paid $14.50 for a flavorless, disappointing meal. I even tried to give it a second chance next day, warmed up in the oven at 425 degrees. Forget about it! I think these guys should stopping partying so much when they visit NY and concentrate on the flavors of pizza they try to emulate. Also guys. This is Portland... what's with the attitude? No need for attitude! I picked up a pizza one time, I made the mistake of arriving 10 minutes early and got so much freakin attitude. Never again! Never, ever again. I gave you more chances than you deserve!

Escape from NY Supermarket

by housemusik at Citysearch

After living in NY, I can honestly say Escape from NY ranks with the bottom levels of "street corner pizza". They need to learn to reheat in the brick oven- the electric oven kills the crust and the cheese. The sauce is nothing great either. It is not bad for Oregon though, compared to what's out there. I think Tributes has a better slice with actual friendly people working. It is not quite NY pizza either, but closer than "Escape".

  • Pros: Best to get whole pie
  • Cons: attitude, seating, no delivery

Okay Pizza

by beavsosu at Citysearch

Not a clean place, the pizza is lacking. The crust is OUTSTANDING, but the cheese is flavorless. CHEAP pizza and a quick lunch. The guys working behind the counter think if you are not Liberal then you sound not be eating there.

  • Pros: Cheap Pizza, Quick Lunch, Great Crust
  • Cons: flavorless cheese, poor counter help
