BAR EXTRAORDINARE
by robtom0514
Of all the restaurants and bars that we visited in Portland, we definitely found ourselves going back to the Nob Hill Bar & Grill. Very friendly atmosphere and service. The bartender, Kale, is friendly, accomodating and easy on the eyes. If you're in town, do yourself a favor and visit this local hangout. You you won't be sorry!
- Pros: Nice vibe with great music and fab bartender
- Cons: Parking
Stupendous service...Bad burgers
by Bertimus
Our waitress was warm, welcoming and attentive. The atmosphere is a wonderful contrast to the trendiness of most of NW 23rd (not that that's all bad). The burgers were a grave disappointment , and keep in mind the four of us had four different burgers. Two of us loved the onion rings and two of us hated them. Two of us hated the tater tots and two of us hated them. But we all agreed that the burgers were a bust. Might drop back in for a beer, but not for the beef.
- Pros: Service
- Cons: Burgers
Dear Abused Customer,

Nobby's is a great place. I don't know how many times you've been, but everytime I go the staff if helpful. You should give it another chance.
Oh, and before you write something on the internet, make sure you take 6th grade english first. See, while constructing a sentence we rarely capitalize words, unless at the beginning or if it is a name or a place. And please use spell check, as I am guessing that you are not an 11 year old girl conversing with her friends through AIM.
Now that we've covered that bit, when you walk into a "seat yourself" resturant it's also a dumba*s thing to decide to sit at a table with dirty dishes when there is a clean table right next to it.
Signed: Devoted Customer.
- Pros: Best sandwiches ever. Locally owned.
- Cons: Nothing.
Beware

Well, what can I say when a greasy haired PUNK waiter ruins your Day after spending an already MORE Horrible Day across the Street at Good Sam Hospital at a Loved one's Deathbed...When We came in to this establishement, the table we wanted had some dirty dishes on it, so...being creative and caring we "thought" we were being helpful by "moving" said dishes to a nearby unused table..OOPS!!! after this PUNK waiter ignored us, He then came over and simply said : Great, now I have to clean Two Tables!!!! not a Helllo, or Welcome, just His PUNK attitude, and when We called Him on His attitude, He got "PUNKY" and said: I'm too busy, I'm not going to serve you!!!! Great "Charisma" there you Jerk....Perhaps you are in the Wrong Career.......Signed: Abused Customer
- Pros: Hmmmmmm
- Cons: The waiter is ....well, challanged
Average Bar, Good Burger, Warm Beer
by cheddar97005
The burgers are ok - slightly better than average burger. The bar is a pretty typical tavern. Every time I've been there, however, the beer is lukewarm.
- Pros: Decent burger
- Cons: Warm beer
Poor Service - Lazy Bartender - Great Burger
by ErinMcManus
Hey the burgers are great but with the lousy service who would want to eat there. We went in on Saturday night and there were 6 other people in there. The bartender came up and said IDs please. I'm 47 and my partner is 45. No hello - nothing. He took our order, left and forgot to come back with our drinks. I walked up to the bar and he got up from a bar stool and asked me can I help you. I told him I'd like our beers and he asked me which beer. Then we waited forever to get our burgers - there was hardly anybody else there. So when we wanted to leave we waited and waited and watched the bartender sit there and watch the TV. My partner finally got up and asked him for the check which he said he already gave it to us. He then went and found it in the kitchen or maybe he wrote it out again - who knows - it took forever. They need a better bartender.
You have got to be kidding!

They claim to have the best burger in town...NOT A CHANCE! They say this because they "have sold more burgers than anyone in town"...so, by that logic, McDonalds has the best food in town too...the burger was mediocre at best, loaded with some mayo based sauce that tasted like vomit...topped with a piece of white iceberg lettuce and an under-ripe tomato...will never go back!
- Pros: An refuge from the pretentiosness of 23rd ave.
- Cons: food, service
Where's the Beef?
by ejones73
I'm a transplant to Portland from the midwest and passed this hole-in-the-wall on a recent shopping trip so I ducked in for a burger one Saturday afternoon. The ambiance is exactly as described, real people in a smoky bar. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with tator tots and when it arrived, I literally had to forage through the other items to find a very small griddle-seared beef patty which was very thin and very dry. I'm not certain if Steak 'n Shake (Carl's Jr., made to order) is considered good eats out here but that is exactly what you will get at Nob Hill Bar and Grill. Even for a dive, you would do better elsewhere.
Best Burger Ever!!!!
by starmanpdx
Upon my recent visit to 23rd avenue we were lucky to stumble upon the Nobby on 23rd and Lovejoy. What a cool little bar in the middle of all the trendy shops and cafe's. Nobby's had that great feeling of a neighborhood bar where they might yell "Norm!" when you walk in the door. We were there when the place was packed and we were lucky to get a seat right away. I ordered a "Ambulance Chaser" and my wife ordered a double cheeseburger. These were the best burgers ever!! The coolest thing is you can order tater tots instead of fries - awesome!!!
- Pros: Awesome Food
- Cons: Crowded
Best Burger I've had in Portland area.
by jimmbo12
I haven't got a bad meal here yet. Prices are reasonable. Burgers have always been great, but fries aren't very good. Sometimes it's taken a long time to get my order. Still gets 5 stars because it's the best burger in Portland I've had so far.
- Pros: Great burgers, reasonably priced.
- Cons: Parking (I hate going downtown), fries.
