RIPOFF

Took too long to get recognized. Then it took too long to get a beer. Then another 10 minutes to get a burger. Maybe they need to hire more than two people to service an entire restaurant. I will never go there again and will never recommend the place to anyone. PATHETIC.
- Cons: Fries are the worst...GREASE...yuck
What Happened to Stanich's?

WOW...where to begin...called at 9:15 to order two "specials with fries" to go and was told the grill closed in 5 min and the fryers were off...but they close at 10??? We went to pick up at 9:40 and witnessed two other potential customers being told by the Hamburger Natzi that the grill was off but she'd make them a sandwich?...needless to say, both left noticeably upset. Also, seated at a table was a couple eating burgers WITH fries...hmmm?...Our burgers themselves were in no way reminiscent of the Stanich's I have known and USED to love for many years...an overcooked flimsy patty with more soggy buttered bun than burger, flavorless, greasy, wilted lettuce, tomato and onion, half a piece of grey bacon, drowned in sauce and both in the bag upside down..then to add insult to injury...a 1/2 oz. baby bag of Lay's potato chips!?! Stanich's has lost it's unique edge and the quality of food is no better than the horrible service...especially in this economy if you are going to choose to spend $7 on a burger DO NOT waste it here!!!
- Pros: used to have many...
- Cons: none of those any more/ Beware the Hamburger Natzi

How do you describe the perfect burger? All I can do is advise you to try it - don't quetion it - don't modify it - just try it. I have made this suggestion to many people from all over the country and to a person, when they tried it they loved it! One friend ate lunch and dinner there for 4 days in a row while in town. When I fly in my family knows my routine, get off plane, pick up bags, get rental car, drive to Stanich's.
- Pros: Best burgers in Portland or anywhere for that matter.
- Cons: I live on the east coast and don't get there often enough
Good burger, old Portland landmark

After reading all the reviews for Stanich's my husband and I decided to chance it and try out the famous burger. We were not disappointed! The burger was great, fries were too greasy. Atmosphere is a local bar. If you are looking for gourmet burgers or super professional waitstaff this is not the place. If you enjoy honest people and a local bar feel then head on down.
- Pros: Burger
- Cons: Fries

I thought I'd try "the best burger in town", yeaaahhh right. After waiting about 45 minutes I finally got my dry burger and soggy bun. The fries were awful. Waitstaff was surly, and I've heard that the owner is a real meanie too. A much better burger isn't too far away at Roake's.
- Cons: bad food/service

This place is well known for it's crazy intense burgers. I wasn't that impressed. The quality of the food isn't as great as it could be. I think this place has been around for awhile and the reputation remained. Portland has evolved in many ways, even with burgers.

I went to Stanich's since everyone says it is the best burgers in town. I was disappointed. The staff was unfriendly and the burger was not good, it had so much mustard on it I could barely eat it. The high point was the fries, they were good.
The legend of Stanich's is just that. Legend. Not fact

For the life of me, I cannot understand ANY positive ratings for this place. The "service" is incredibly slow ..so slow that it is really ridiculous. The legendary hamburgers are really no different than so many other places. The place was run well when George was still alive but his daughter seems to simply view it as a money maker and tha lack of attention is obvious. I lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years and went to Stanich's many times. I stopped a couple years ago. Stanich's is not what it once was. And really, this is 2009. What's up with still not accepting debit or credit cards? Simple answer. They don't want to pay the small fee for customers convenience.
Go to the Alameda Brew Pub down the street.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Ridiculously slow service, greasy, limp french fries.

The food at Stanich's amazingly good and amazingly filling.
We recommend the burger topped with a fried egg and all the trimmings.
The restaurant is busy all day and evening so be prepared for a possible wait..it will be worth your time. A fun place to meet friends.
Why bother?

You can get a better burger at McDonald's than this place. I've never had such a greasy burger in all my life and the fries were dripping with oil too. Service as horrendous - I think they just want you to drink more beer. Needless to say, there are plenty of other places to get a decent burger in town so skip this place and do your cholesterol level a favor.
- Pros: Been there forever
- Cons: Been there forever
Good Burger but not much else

Stanich's has great burgers; I even like that they are grilled on a flat top. I like the bad cheese and too salty ham. It is a burger, after all, and I would rather that than foie gras on my burger. The fries are fresh cut and taste like it; in other words, it is really hard to get them crispy and not greasy tasting. Stanich's has beer, which is nice, but the selection leaves something to be desired. Besides, burgers this good call for a milkshake. The decor, I am sure, appeals to some, with penants from every college in America (or real close) and formica topped tables. Unfortunately I would rather not have a TV on while I am eating. The service is fine, a little slow but friendly. All in all a nice neighborhood place and an even better place to get a burger to take home.
- Pros: The burgers
- Cons: Almost everything else
