Great place, amazing atmosphere and GOOD burgers
by dricha3140
My dad and I used to go here to have our special "dates". I was younger then and he has since passed but I remember the service always being amazing. Not a huge restaurant so the service was decent. Family owned. There Best Burger really is just that, the best. This is the perfect place to just go sit, relax, bs around, and have a great burger.
AWESOME

Lots of people complain....most of them live in Beaverton area, have 2.2 kids and an awesome golden lab. If you want a great hamburger come on down. If you expect Red Robin don't show up.
- Pros: Best Burger in the state
- Cons: cant go back enough
FILTHY FILTHY FILTHY
by jBlakeley
This is a first. The gross and filthy conditions of this restaurant so discussed me that I registered with Citysearch so I could write this review.
First, we weren't even sure if they were open. The neon sign in front said "open" but the sign displayed in the window facing the parking lot said "CLOSED". Unfortunately for us they were open. We walked in and waited (as the sign instructed) to be seated. After about 5 minutes someone from behind the bar told us to find our own table. We sat down at one and I reached for a menu. It was sticky! I set it down and noticed that the table had something smeared across it. Gross!!! We decided to change tables. As I was replacing the menu I moved the salt shaker and found that it was coved with what appeared to be old, jelled (it had been there long enough to have turned clear) mayonnaise. We moved to another table but it was almost as dirty as the first. Three more tables and not one of them were clean, although you could tell that an attempt had been made to wipe them down. The place was dimly lit but even my 50 year old eyes scanning the place could see that this was not a place where I wanted to eat. Although sight, or the lack of, would not be needed to realize the filthy conditions we had just walked into. Even a blind man would know that there's a problem when his arms stuck to the table. I can only imagine what the sanitary conditions in the kitchen were like. Problems like these are not only because of the wait staff. They occur because of extremely poor or lazy management, who have little to no regard for the cleanliness of there business. After leaving, I drove directly to a service station where I could wash my hands. Yes, thats correct, the restroom of a service station. There have been very few places that I would not give a second chance to, but this one has made the list! BEWARE!!!
- Pros: A great place if you enjoy eating in FILTH
- Cons: Poor service and filthy conditions

What Happened to Stanich's?
by smilesja88
WOW...where to begin...called at 9:15 to order two "specials with fries" to go and was told the grill closed in 5 min and the fryers were off...but they close at 10??? We went to pick up at 9:40 and witnessed two other potential customers being told by the Hamburger Natzi that the grill was off but she'd make them a sandwich?...needless to say, both left noticeably upset. Also, seated at a table was a couple eating burgers WITH fries...hmmm?...Our burgers themselves were in no way reminiscent of the Stanich's I have known and USED to love for many years...an overcooked flimsy patty with more soggy buttered bun than burger, flavorless, greasy, wilted lettuce, tomato and onion, half a piece of grey bacon, drowned in sauce and both in the bag upside down..then to add insult to injury...a 1/2 oz. baby bag of Lay's potato chips!?! Stanich's has lost it's unique edge and the quality of food is no better than the horrible service...especially in this economy if you are going to choose to spend $7 on a burger DO NOT waste it here!!!
- Pros: used to have many...
- Cons: none of those any more/ Beware the Hamburger Natzi
Yes, they are the World's Greatest burger's
by LifeCoach
How do you describe the perfect burger? All I can do is advise you to try it - don't quetion it - don't modify it - just try it. I have made this suggestion to many people from all over the country and to a person, when they tried it they loved it! One friend ate lunch and dinner there for 4 days in a row while in town. When I fly in my family knows my routine, get off plane, pick up bags, get rental car, drive to Stanich's.
- Pros: Best burgers in Portland or anywhere for that matter.
- Cons: I live on the east coast and don't get there often enough
Good burger, old Portland landmark
by Tonkspnw
After reading all the reviews for Stanich's my husband and I decided to chance it and try out the famous burger. We were not disappointed! The burger was great, fries were too greasy. Atmosphere is a local bar. If you are looking for gourmet burgers or super professional waitstaff this is not the place. If you enjoy honest people and a local bar feel then head on down.
- Pros: Burger
- Cons: Fries
waste of time
by jicamalurver
I thought I'd try "the best burger in town", yeaaahhh right. After waiting about 45 minutes I finally got my dry burger and soggy bun. The fries were awful. Waitstaff was surly, and I've heard that the owner is a real meanie too. A much better burger isn't too far away at Roake's.
- Cons: bad food/service
The legend of Stanich's is just that. Legend. Not fact
by dougelmo
For the life of me, I cannot understand ANY positive ratings for this place. The "service" is incredibly slow ..so slow that it is really ridiculous. The legendary hamburgers are really no different than so many other places. The place was run well when George was still alive but his daughter seems to simply view it as a money maker and tha lack of attention is obvious. I lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years and went to Stanich's many times. I stopped a couple years ago. Stanich's is not what it once was. And really, this is 2009. What's up with still not accepting debit or credit cards? Simple answer. They don't want to pay the small fee for customers convenience.
Go to the Alameda Brew Pub down the street.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Ridiculously slow service, greasy, limp french fries.
Why bother?
by PDXSecretShopper
You can get a better burger at McDonald's than this place. I've never had such a greasy burger in all my life and the fries were dripping with oil too. Service as horrendous - I think they just want you to drink more beer. Needless to say, there are plenty of other places to get a decent burger in town so skip this place and do your cholesterol level a favor.
- Pros: Been there forever
- Cons: Been there forever
