Good Burger but not much else
by hooleywho at Citysearch
Stanich's has great burgers; I even like that they are grilled on a flat top. I like the bad cheese and too salty ham. It is a burger, after all, and I would rather that than foie gras on my burger. The fries are fresh cut and taste like it; in other words, it is really hard to get them crispy and not greasy tasting. Stanich's has beer, which is nice, but the selection leaves something to be desired. Besides, burgers this good call for a milkshake. The decor, I am sure, appeals to some, with penants from every college in America (or real close) and formica topped tables. Unfortunately I would rather not have a TV on while I am eating. The service is fine, a little slow but friendly. All in all a nice neighborhood place and an even better place to get a burger to take home.
- Pros: The burgers
- Cons: Almost everything else
I have no idea why this is the "Best Burger"
by 124mimikay at Citysearch
Where's the beef? There was nothing on the bun except onions and lettuce. Soggy fries too! Ick.
I don't get it. Nothing special here. I'm still seaching for the "Best Burger".
- Pros: None
- Cons: All
Good news-bad news
by armax at Citysearch
The burgers were good, the prices are very reasonable, and they did pay attention to our high maintenance order for 5 people. The bad news is the wait time. Expect an hour, long enough for burger and fries odor to permeate your hair and clothing. I hear the SW location is much faster.
Good burguer, wrong day for fries
by ypioca at Citysearch
I rate my burgers under 2 categories. The large, often over 1/3 pound, good quality meat burgers, where the beef is the centerpiece, and everything else. This falls under the latter.
The burger was above average. Their sweet relish-ish sauce is good, but there was a little too much of it. I would've expected a fresher hunkier slice of bacon.
Now, the fries on the other hand, I could've done without. They were wilty and dark. Like somebody dumped 2 tons of spuds in oil that was beyond recycled.
Service was prompt and friendly.
- Pros: ambience, burger
- Cons: fries
This is Portland's Best?
by chickenwings at Citysearch
I have to admit I was was very disappointed when I went to this restaurant after citysearch's rave reviews. I'm not sure what the big deal is other than that a hamburger with fried egg and ham is bound to clog your arteries quicker than consuming a pound of lard. The service was friendly, but I have had better burgers at other Portland establishments.
Only if Size Matters
by lambkim at Citysearch
The size of the burgers is what's truly catchy...equating to perceived "value" I assume. But the quality/taste of the burgers is no different than an average diner. The location offers more of a "landmark" value -than actually quality value.
I do have to say, however, that their onion rings ARE fabulous.
- Pros: Onion Rings, Portion Sizes
- Cons: Burgers
Good burger, painful wait
by yazfan at Citysearch
I came from the land of In-n-Out Burger (the best confirmed by many), so I'm skeptical of raving burger reviews. However, Stanich's is a unique creation, and if you enjoy a burger that's not dominated by the meat, but is rather defined by a medley of incredients, than this is a great place. If not, then buy a pound of ground chuck and have at it. Service is friendly, but sloooowwwww. So slow, that it actually makes me hesitate going there. The fries are above average, and other items on the menu, e.g., egg sandwich, are certainly not worth the high price. Nice guy behind the bar, the cook is a bit quirky.
- Pros: burgers, service attitude
- Cons: other menu items, service speed
Yummy!

Big burgers for big appetites! The are yummy, but the service is so-so and it's not really family friendly.
Where's the Beef?
by jvbruce at Citysearch
Yikes! I've heard so many good things about this place that I finally had to step up to the plate - which included flavorless fries and a razor thin quarter lb. of beef. Fortunately, the price was bearable. Definitely not what I was expecting from such a highly touted venue. The few extra bucks at Red Robin, Stanford's, or The Sports Page are better spent.
