Good burger, old Portland landmark
by Tonkspnw at Citysearch
After reading all the reviews for Stanich's my husband and I decided to chance it and try out the famous burger. We were not disappointed! The burger was great, fries were too greasy. Atmosphere is a local bar. If you are looking for gourmet burgers or super professional waitstaff this is not the place. If you enjoy honest people and a local bar feel then head on down.
- Pros: Burger
- Cons: Fries
Great place, amazing atmosphere and GOOD burgers

My dad and I used to go here to have our special "dates". I was younger then and he has since passed but I remember the service always being amazing. Not a huge restaurant so the service was decent. Family owned. There Best Burger really is just that, the best. This is the perfect place to just go sit, relax, bs around, and have a great burger.
Great Burgers, Service Sometimes Slow, Get it To Go
by mc250 at Citysearch
I've been going to Stanich's for years now and their burgers have remained tasty. Normally I get my order to go as the service in the restaurant is often slow though friendly.
Their fries are a little on the greasy side, but this place is all about the burgers. If you don't want to wait, call ahead and get it to go!
- Pros: Great Burgers
- Cons: Sometimes slow service
Burgers yes..fries, what ARE they?

My husband I came here in the late 80's after everyone said we HAD to. We hated it.
Then we discovered in 2003 that we hadn't ordered "The Special" and really....there is no other reason to go here except for that! Our mistake!
Now we know go at least once a month. The staff is kind and there is sometimes a crazy wait, but they keep the beer full!
And they are all so good with children!
- Pros: Hamburger, staff
- Cons: no credit cards?????, fries (yuck)
People come from near and far to get their burger fix here.

In Short
Wood-paneled walls are plastered with sports banners, many fading and worn, from every college and pro sports team imaginable. The well-worn booths and Formica tables have been visited over and over by loyal patrons for 50 years and counting. The World's Greatest Hamburger is legendary in these parts, piled with cheese, ham, bacon, fried egg, tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions and special sauce--mustard, mayo and relish. The fries are thick, hand-cut and fried.
- Pros: inexpensiveultra casual

A hamburger joint can't be #1, with me not having tried it. I finely did, a week ago. I was impressed with their large cheeseburger. I didn't care for the bacon, as it was too hard and crisp. I now think that bacon in a cheeseburger, is not a good idea.
I definately think that an egg is out of place. Without the bacon, I would say, I had may have had the best hamburger, yet. The bun was large, and very fresh. All of the other ingredients, made for a delicious experience. The french fries were also very good, and not greasy. I came in at 11am, when they open, and waited 20 to 25 minutes for the burger. I hope this is not normal, if so, I hope that improves.
- Pros: So far, it's # 1
- Cons: Too far away.

The service and overall atmosphere was fine, but the walls were filled with Great Football Memorability of the owners son's day from high school through his day as a pro football player. We really enjoyed the place and talked to the owner who is usually on site daily. Thanks
- Pros: Inexpensive, Good parking
- Cons: Crowded
Bring a spare artery

You'll need an empty stomach. This is quite possibly the best burger in town. One wish: Stanich's should replace pre-made patties with home-made.
- Cons: smoking allowed, no credit cards, few tables
Good burger - environment could improve
by duckdina at Citysearch
The burgers here are really very good. And the enrvironment is a classic in the Portland area. However, there seem to have been few updates or replacements in many years - leading to a stale cigarette undertone. Bottom line: worth the trip, but maybe not a "standard" for regular visits.
