Great food, Nice atmosphere
by lindz75
My husband and I went into the Alameda Brewhouse for the first time recently and I was pleasantly surprised! They have a huge menu, and really great drinks. The only problem was our waitress had B.O. really bad! Would go back, just hoping we don't get the same server.
- Pros: great drinks, delicious food
- Cons: smelly waitstaff
gone downhill

I have recommended this pub to friends in the past, but have been disappointed in my last visits. Ordered a hamberger medium rare, it came medium/done. I asked to substitute a salad for fries and was charged $3 extra for a very, very small salad. The burger and bread were very dry. However, the beer as always was excellent.
- Pros: beer
Full of kids and rude
by kpaub
We had the worst dinner experience we could have had. The food was OK, but not great so that didn't make it any better. We wanted to sit outside and the waitress seemed like it was a pain for us to be the only ones out there that she had to wait on. She didn't ask if we needed anything else when she delivered the food so I had to go back inside and ask for some mayo, and when we ordered it was sort of like "what do you want". I'm not sure what the draw of Beaumont Village is, because everyone we encountered was rude. There was a real estate broker outside on his cell phone trying to pitch his services to someone and he wouldn't go away or stop talking really loudly in our ear for about 15-20 minutes. Everyone we saw going inside had young children. I'm not sure when brew houses became family establishments, but that isn't what I'm looking for when I want to drink a beer and relax. We had our very well behaved, super cute dog with us and no one walking by seemed to acknowledge our presence at all. Way too snobby of a crowd for us. It was very hot, so we asked the waitress for a lighter beer suggestion and the one she suggested was really boring. It tasted like an over-priced PBR. We also had a rather unsavory looking couple walk by with their 2 pit bull/boxer mix dogs who tried to attack our dog when he was laying down behind my fiance doing nothing. When the dogs started barking and growling, they started attacking each other. It was a very scary situation especially with the number of kids that were around the general area. I'm not sure what that area of Freemont is normally like, but this was a very bad experience.
My new Fav!

We went to Alameda Brew Pub on a Saturday night. There was a HUGE line of people waiting to be seated. We decided that the Bar was a more appropriate place to sit since there was just 2 of us...and we were hungry. Upon sitting down, we were immediately greeted by a bartender who had asked if we had ever been there before. Since we had not she brought over a listing of their beers and explained them all. We even tried a few before making out selections. Great selection of foods...I had the burger and my boyfriend had chicken nachos. I grew up in the mid-west...and no matter where you ate a burger, they always asked you how you wanted it cooked....to me, this is a good sign of a great burger to come. So, my medium-rare burger was unbelievable! The chicken nachos were huge and sooo tasty. We made friends with a bunch of people sitting beside us, chatted with the staff, had a great time! We have now been back around 5 times.....in a month. We do not really live in the area but, it is so worth it. Last time we had chicken wings and chips & fish......all tasted wonderful! My new favorite place. Oh yeah.....the bartenders even recognize us now. Kinda feel like Norm!
- Pros: Beer, Food, Staff,....it all
- Cons: Nothing to complain about
You will be sorry.

My son got food poising from the seafood. Their crab bisque is no longer tastey either. This place is way over rated and I don't trust their food or how the kitchen handles it. Don't waste your money!
Would rather eat at Applebee's.

A girlfriend and I decided to stop here on our way to Mademoiselle Noelle's Fortune Tea House since there weren't a lot of dining options in the area. Our experience was sub-par. I would seriously rather eat at Applebee's than this place again. The food is overpriced and lackluster. I ordered a Philly cheese steak. The meat was chewy, the peppers overcooked, the bread soggy, and it came with a side of spaghetti sauce. I think cheese steaks normally come with au jus, but I'm not from Philadelphia and could very well be wrong about that. My friend ordered a salad and to have chicken added, which normally cost an additional $2 for all of the other salads on the menu, but she was charged $4 because she asked for "grilled" chicken instead of "regular" chicken, when there was no distinction outlined in the menu. Her average-sized (and average quality) salad came to a whopping $13. The beer was $4.50 a pint and was mediocre at the very most. You can get a much better microbrew at a place like Amnesia for less. The place also has very little atmosphere and reminded me of a corporate chain, like TGI Friday's, which is just unusual for Portland. There are SO many amazing restaurants in this town, don't waste your time or money at this place. Eating there was an insult to my palette.
- Cons: Unclear menu. Overpriced, boring fare. Corporate atmosphere.
Citysearch has this place at 4 1/2 stars?? One of the worst restaurants I have EVER eaten at.

I hardly can understand why this place is still in business, the food is not good at all and the beer is barely better. I've even given this place a few tries, because the first time could have been a fluke...I had falafel, dry, weird texture, maybe the kitchen was having an off night. No. I tried again, got a hamburger. It was edible but that was about it. If you want good food and beer there are so many great places in Portland to have these two things together, don't waste your time or money on this business.
- Pros: In a cute part of town.
- Cons: Food, beer, service
Average food, average beer, poor service
by cwr737
The only reason people are waiting for tables at this establishment is that the only other two restaurants on Freemont worth eating at are not child friendly. Wildly uneven food, very average beer, and a staff that thinks that because they work at the ABH, they really don't need to pay attention to their customers, makes for a disapointing experience.
Don't hesitate to send back the french fries, which are more often than not on the down side of the freshness curve. Frozen, by the way - actually much food comes out of frozen bags here.
No kids? Brave the outdoors at Amnesia instead - best beer in Portland. Or go to Pause on Interstate and get perhaps the best fries in Portland, and a great selection of microbrews.
- Pros: If you like mediocre food and beer, you will love it
- Cons: Where to start - average food, below average beer, inatentive staff
wannabe funk creates pain in the trunk

From the blank stares and sullen silence of the wait staff to the harsh faux-industrial corrugated-metal and cinder-block decor, this place is far from welcoming or comfortable. Hey folks, if you reclaim an ugly, utilitarian building from its industrial purpose and turn it into a pub, it's known as 'funky.' However, if you build ugly from scratch, on purpose, miles from any industrial district, you're known as 'stupid.' Also can we get a witness on the seemingly Guantanamo-inspired wooden-slat backs of the booth seating? Because they're TORTURE! Imagine some 2-inch rocking-chair runners spaced 2 inches apart, for you to lean your back against. My companion resorted to slouching against the cinder-block wall. Not a good sign if cold cinder blocks are more comfortable than the device you've built for the presumable purpose of sitting. Oh but it's so arty. Illuminated from underneath, the slat seat-back across the table from you disorients your eyes, while the one behind you clearly showcases the various dust-bunnies and women's hair that's fallen down in there. Didn't think of that, eh? And then of course, you can clearly see and hear the people in the next booth, so you can always listen in on their chatter if the two TVs blaring sports coverage don't provide enough annoying distraction from conversation with the people you came here with. The food was competently executed. The beer was competently brewed and served. Nothing I can't get elsewhere.
Best Rootbeer, poor service.

On one of the few times we've eaten at the brewhouse was especially memorable, there was
a booth open, but the waiter didn't want to let us have it, but we got it anyway, then he told us that
was the end of the good service, and we would have bad service from then on. Boy was he
right! I ordered a burger, it was over cooked, and dry, I finally got another gal to get me some
mayo, as he never dropped by our table after dropping off our food to check on us. The fries used to be so good, but now they are just average. The rootbeer is the best, I have to say, but the service is
not good. I guess they figure they are going to be busy reguardless, so why give good service!
- Pros: Great rootbeer
- Cons: Bad service, high prices, average food.
