After I moved to Portland, I got taken by several mechanics until I found PDX. Girard and Todd the owners have the best repair shop I have ever experienced. They are courteous, helpful and fix it right the first time. I have referred them to all my local family members and many friends who use them as well as strangers that ask me for a good shop because they too have been ripped off. If you use them, there is no way you will be disappointed. I have been their customer for so long, 20 years, give or take, and they have always been great. Thanks PDX

Just bought a used car and was looking for someone I could take the car to that is close to my home. Found PDX Automotive through Citysearch that thought to give them a try. Boy was it a good idea. Jon, the mechanic I dealt with, was extremely helpful and they were able to do a complete inspection of my used car for great price. I will definately be trusting these guys with my car's health from now on.

I took my honda in for a standard 60,000 mile scheduled maintenance and the service was very quick and professional. It's really close to MAX / bus stops, which is convienient too. I arrived 10 minutes after they are supposed to open in the morning and actually pulled in right before the mechanic, but hey, who hasn't been there before, right?

My 2001 Subaru Outback was making a horrible squeaking noise...it started out of the blue. Being short on cash, I put off taking it in for service. Soon after the squeaking, the brake light and battery light started blinking alternately when I would turn on my car. I finally called the shop to have it looked at. I was scared that it was going to end up being a power steering pump or some other god awful thing that would cost $600 dollars. John called me to say that a belt was loose..in fact, shredded and it would only be about $125 to fix it. The lights and squeaking was due to the fact that the belt for the alternator and the belt for the power steering hook to the same thing...so as the belt shredded up, the charge on the battery went down and the power steering started to give out. When I got to the shop I had the best suprise EVER! The mechanic had remembered that I had gotten a new alternator from PDX Automotive - IN FEBRUARY!!! I was going to mention it once I got to the shop, but John told me there was NO CHARGE before I could even get it out. These guys are great. They know cars and they know customer service. I have recommended them to a ton of friends.

First time going to PDX Automotive. I am new to the area and found their info through Portland City Search. I took my Toyota pickup to them to have a new radiator and belts put in. In my dealings, I found them to be professional and competent. • They called with an estimate before they began work • More importantly, the estimate was accurate! • They replaced parts that needed it and reused others that did not. • My truck was finished in the time they quoted me. • I found the prices to be fair. (I normally try to work on my vehicles myself and had already taken the time to price out most of the parts that were replaced.) • They called to tell me when the truck was finished. I think the thing that impressed me most was that they took the time to clean all the connections on my battery and applied some anti corrosive spray. It probably took them an extra five minutes, but it speaks to the fact they might do more than what is required. I plan on using them again in the future.
Pros: Conveniently Located to 60th Ave Max Line
Cons: Not open on weekends

I brought in a used car I'd purchased that needed to have extensive work done. They were very upfront about repair cost before starting the work. They also explained what work needed immediate attention, and what could be put off for a while. Also they were very sensitive to my needs regarding getting my vehicle back as soon as possible. All my interactions with the employees were respectful and professional and everything I had repaired works perfectly. I am grateful to have found an honest mechanic.
Pros: honest, competent and timely

I have been going to Gerard - PDX Automotive - for over ten years because I know I can count on them to find the problem, fix it and not just add on extra charges for unneeded work. For example, once I thought I needed a new transmission and all he charged me was 25 cents for a cotter pin. Another time, Broadway Toyota told me I needed $2,000 worth of work on my car, but when I brought it to PDX Automotive, they were able to correct the problem for $700. PDX Automotive never gouges me or tells me that work is needed without first providing a complete diagnostic check on whatever system is in question on the car. Gerard always lets me know the potential needs my car may have in the near and distant future, and gives me my options about what I can try...always being clear upfront about costs and potential downsides. I count on PDX for reliable, consistant, professional and cost effective service and highly recommend this automotive garage to everyone.
Pros: Reliable, honest, and fixes the problem
Cons: Doesn't work weekends

I have been a satisfied customer of PDX Automotive for over 15 years. They have repaired a variety of cars for me and my family. We have found them to be unfailingly honest, conscientious and expert at troubleshooting difficult problems. A recent example of this is how they expertly and efficiently repaired the air conditioning on my venerable 1986 Buick Skyhawk (which I have owned since new) by tracing it to a bad connector at the firewall. This was not an easy problem to diagnose and repair. In conclusion, my family and I fully entrust the servicing of our vehicles to PDX Automotive, and we highly recommend them without reservation.
Pros: honest, dependable, expert mechanics
Cons: non whatsoever

PDX Automotive took 3 times to "fix" my car (I still don't trust that the same problem won't crop up again), charged us full price each time, even though they admitted by the 3rd time that they were idiots for misdiagnosing it the first two times, and refused to give us any sort of satisfactory resolution or refund - since each diagnosis and repair was slightly different, they claimed it wasn't covered under their 1 year warranty. Our car was out of comission for almost 4 weeks. I have come to the conclusion that they are either completetly dishonest, or totally incompetent. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to these guys.
Pros: They are close to bus lines and the MAX
Cons: Terrible Customer Service, High Prices, Incompetent Techs
