Sad but True

Sad, sad, sad that it is really dirty :O( True, true, true it is so yummy! It really needs to clean it up. Dirt is in the refrigerators, fly's flying around and landing on the food. I will miss going there-something happened...looking around I was really surprised how filthy it is. I hope it changes soon so I can write a 5 star review.
- Pros: Smiles, Good Food
- Cons: Filth

This is a family run store and they always make you feel like you are home. They have such yummy treats of all types and it is nice to sit down and enjoy the great food and some good company. I recommend them!

The Bowers Bakery on Hawthorne is a tiny little place with some of the best muffins I've ever had. There is often a line and it is well worth the wait. Give them a try.

I appears the owner is eating to many of his products, and the place is filthy. More time cleaning and less time eating looks to be in order here. The food was just OK.
Great sandwiches and friendly folks

Delicious everything and very friendly people. I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, so I call ahead and make sure they are open before treating myself.

Hawthorne neighborhood bakery makes fresh muffins, desserts and sandwiches from scratch daily.

Bower's Bakery is a simple place where you are most likely to be greeted by the owner and he'll strike up some conversation with you. They have homestyle baked good that include large cinnamon rolls, danish pastries, muffins, brownies and more. If you have a craving for a treat like mom would make and would like to sit down for a little conversation this is a great place to stop by. They made me feel at home during my first visit.
PROS: large homestyle baked goods
CONS: none
Best Muffins I've ever had

I now live in GA (don't ask) and soooo miss things in Portland. One of the things I've been thinking a lot about is Bowers muffins. Wish I could make the things. Their turkey sandwiches with cream cheese and cranberry sauce is my favorite sandwich. Moody employees or not well worth going. Although, I've never encountered negative attitudes there. The muffins are a must. Hmmmm wonder if they overnight. LOL

I like the bakery items. The sandwiches are great too. I like to pickup sandwiches at Bower's and take them to a local park.
Great value, mostly okay service

Great sandwiches -- one of the best values in town. One sandwich often makes two meals for me and it's high quality, too.
The staff are friendly for the most part, but can be rude if not having a good day. Today, for example, the girl making my sandwich refused to smile or utter a word -- or even acknowledge that I was talking to her! If today had been my first visit, I'd never go back. Fortunately, I know she's the exception rather than the rule.
- Pros: Great value, Quality food, Close to shopping
- Cons: Moody staff, Hit and miss service, Nowhere to sit
