Amazing Place -- Very Knowledgeable and Helpful
by A Fan
I needed a costume for the weekend to be taken with me that day for myself and my husband. He wasn't able to come in with me. They worked with me so thoroughly that I came away with spectacular outfits. My husband thanked me for getting him such a great costume. I got the credit for Hollywood Costumers expertise and unbelievably HUGE selection. I will definitely come back.
- Pros: Huge selection and parking in front
STAY AWAY- unless you like rude costumer service and high prices.
by yowwow2
YUCK!!! What a hell hole. High priced and RUDE people running the place. How do they stay in business?
I think it's a front for some other activity. How else could they stay in business. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: Where to start. RUDE service HIGH prices.
No Clothes for daughters wedding
by gillman
We ordered and paid for our costumes late November before leaving on vacation. When we returned the weather was bad I started calling on December 20 no answer no voice mail nothing. We drove from Oregon City Tuesday at noon and they were not open no explination on door no number to call except the one I had been calling. We have to leave for Bend in the morning for my daughters wedding and we do not have our costumes. This is very upsetting. I left them a note in their mai slot on Tuesday. They know that these costumes are for a wedding. I wonder how many Santa Claus were disapointed also. If anyone knows the owner please tell them to call. My number is on the inside of their door on the flooor. They have spoiled this wedding day for my daughter. I would not trust them. Sandra
What ever happened to Baby Jane meets Groundhog Day
by shoppdxlady
Funny about the customer service comments below. I actually had one gal running around trying to help two different shoppers as best as she could, but standing next to us, right on the phone the whole time, engrossed in some personal call was the living incarnation of "what ever happened to Baby Jane". It was almost worth the trip just to look at this other character who was completely unmotivated to either help me or the other poor gal who was actually trying to help.
But that's not my gripe. Make sure they are open when they say they are, because they might not be! Even if you reserve a costume, try it on, and say "hey, I'll be back on ____, during your normal business hours to get this". they might not give a hoot. Sure, they probably assumed I had about 4 other costumes that I could pull out of my A$$ an hour before I was supposed to go to a party.
- Cons: lots, bring and inhaler if you have asthma
Combative Customer Service
by caramore
I have to pile on to echo the folks who've had bad customer service here. I called to inquire about a costume for my husband and was asked for his "coat size." I replied "large" and asked if they had the 2 costumes ideas I was interested in. The salesperson said she refused to check until I called her back with his actual coat size. I figured out that she meant dress shirt/neck measurement and asked her what a large would be (he's a teacher ok...I buy him shirts off a hangar not the shrink-wrapped suit shirts). She said...maybe 42. I said "ok, let's say he's a 42 then, do you have either of these 2 costumes?" She refused to even look until I could call her back with confirmation that my husband wears a size 42 shirt. I called back at 3:40 and they were already gone for the day (or just not answering the phone). Ummmmm.....there goes one sale out the door. If anyone with a clue about customer service is looking for a small business idea, I recommend opening a costume rental store.
Horrible, horrible, horrible management and customer service!!
by Starting0ver
Stopped by the day before Halloween, midday, we were second into the store but it filled up quickly with people and there was NO ONE at the counters. For at least five minutes we were all milling around wondering whether to walk out or not. Then a guy came out and started helping one person. There were at least three workers in the costume area and NONE came out front. After waiting for at LEAST 15 minutes more (remember, we were the second people in there!) and not being helped at ALL, not even a "I'll be right with you", we walked out.
Horrible management! Hire extra help around Halloween, for crying out loud! Are they just stupid or what? Their Halloween orders should have already been pulled BEFORE Halloween, and they STILL would need extra help for their counter around the same time. It's really amazing that they are even still in business! They must have some long-term corporate accounts or something because they treat their walk-in customers like cr*p. I can't believe a business that treats customers so poorly could survive this long.
Hours of operation - ???
by bobfuller30004
(2/29/2008) CitySearch says Hollywood Costumers is open open until 4:00pm on Fridays, the Hollywood Costumers website says they're open until 5:00pm on Fridays, the actual business place says they're open until 3:30pm on Fridays. When is this place open?! I tried calling them, but just got a voice mail that didn't even indicate I had reached Hollywood Costumers.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Hours of operation unknown
I Will NEVER Go Back to this Place!!!
by that_grrl
I went in to Hollywood Costumes just before Halloween to get a bowler hat for my husband who wanted to go to a party as Alex from "A Clockwork Orange." This is a pretty common item, and I had seen them around town at other places for about $5 but failed to pick one up. When I asked them for a bowler hat, they said they only had one choice, and it was $25. I said, "I don't need something so nice, it's just for one night. I was looking for a $5 hat." They looked at me with a sneer and said, "We don't have any of THOSE." As I walked out, they actually burst into laughter. I went to Lippman and got EXACTLY what I wanted. Hollywood Costumes is run by RUDE people. They have no clue as to the reality of their business, and are completely out of touch with the general public. I have also gone in there to buy professional stage make-up for productions I've been in, but the staff is untrained in how the products work. Finally, there should be a city ordinance against those hideously tacky paintings on their windows....although, I realize that is just a matter of taste.
They were so rude I just cut my losses and walked out

First, it looks like a huge store from the outside. You get a bit excited. After all, there are all these costumes painted on the outside wall, right? So I go in, and the store seems tiny. I stop to notice all the bright green signs with all the rules, like "Smile, You're On Camera" and "Only 2 Try-Ons" . . .
So I politely ask the older lady where the rest of the store is. She very coldly barked that "NO, that's private!" I have no clue what she means, because when I asked her to elaborate, she doesn't, but just grumpily asks "What are ya looking for?" So I tell her I don't know yet, but I'd like to look around, which I do, but it just seems like only part of the store. I finally walk out, somewhat confused. Is this all they've got?
So I look in the window, and what is there? Rows of costumes! With green signs, indicating it's a customer area. Smile, because you'll be on camera there, too, in case you were thinking about stuffing that Napoleon costume into your purse.
So I go back in, explain that I'm confused, and the other woman grudgingly walks me back there, an area you can't really see from the main floor. After briefly pointing to the sign, she asks "What would you like?" I explain that I just wanted to get some ideas, and that I didn't know yet. So she walks me back there and starts peppering me with questions: How long will you be renting it for? What's it for? What do you want? What do you want??? It was like I had better decide literally within seconds, or else I wouldn't be able to stay back there.
I finally just thanked her and walked out.
I've never encountered worse customer service in my entire life. From the beginning, I felt completely unwelcome, like I was imposing upon them to shop there. I just wanted to leave, which is exactly what I did.
- Pros: Seems like they have a lot of costumes back there
- Cons: Hard to tell what they have; rude and pushy customer service; seems quite spendy
HORRIBLE PLACE!
by judyellis75
I would not go here - you will not walk away with a good feeling let alone any type of costume because they breathe down your neck and don't let you try anything on....plus they insulted you by telling you the outfits are too small and you are too big..........They DO NOT LIKE CUSTOMERS!!!
- Pros: nONE
- Cons: HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, RUD SALES PEOPLE AND OWNER
