Good stuff for not very much money.

by sneeches at Citysearch

True the service isn't spectacular, but the food was really good and is is a realtively cheap place to eat. We had the vegetable samosa and they were super yummy. The palak paneer was as good as any I've had in other states. The mutton special had very tender meat with a good-not-overpowering-spicy sauce. The mango lassi left a little to be desired. Overall, our experience was pleasant despite the staff not being overly attentive. I liked this place and I'll definitley go back.

  • Pros: Great food.
  • Cons: Service was not great.

Good Cooking

by invidia at Citysearch

I choose simplicity over contrived ambiance, and prefer unadapted spiciness, so I liked eating at India Grill. However reserved the servers might seem, the flavors and textures here are good. The only thing missing is custom sauce palette, available at other restaurants.

  • Pros: Food, Price, Location, Ambience
  • Cons: Service

Wonderful food-horribly treated by staff!!!

by natashaahsatan at Citysearch

This is a great restaurant, wonderful food. I have eatten here for years, and had nothing but great expearences. My only complaint is that I was given the wrong order tonight and was yelled at by an employee for calling and was told it was my mistake, not her's. I have never been treated so RUDELY!! Usually the people are very kind.

amazing food, horrible ambiance.

by chokere at Citysearch

the india grill has, by far, the best indian food in town. and, for lunch, they have a small but good buffet. however, the tacky lime green walls are horrible. but remember, the enclosed balcony with christmas lights that are surprisingly pretty and really no noticeable green is wonderful. good for vegetarians, too. my favorite meat dish is coconut chicken.

  • Pros: amazing food, great balcony
  • Cons: horrible ambiance, not so good prices(about as much as any indian place, though...)

Delicious and Overpriced

by missmayamiranda at Citysearch

Creme de la creme of indian fare but really freaking expensive. You will be disspointed when you pay 10-15 bucks for a savory and wonderful meal not big enough to fill you up and have leftovers to take home. The quality is excellent but for the price it is unfortunate the portions are so small. It's 3 bucks just for a piece of naan!!! Wow.

  • Pros: spicy chutney, fluffy naan, great entrees
  • Cons: expensive, lame buffet, busy weekends

I like it

by shantown at Citysearch

The India Grill is a sweet place with good Indian food. I really like the Saag and the Mali Kofta - my husband and I go there all the time for these dishes. I wouldn't necessarily go there for a romantic evening, but it is still cozy and nice - a lot better than many of the Indian restaurants in Portland.

Great Indian Food! Try the samosas!!

by swimmer_chic01 at Citysearch

We went on a weeknight at 5pm, and were seated and served promptly. We never used to eat Indian food, but we will definitely be eating it more often now! My friend made me try the vegi samosas, and they are the best! I'm not a spicy food person, so I had the Chicken Padam Basanda (in an almond sauce). Its a little spicy, but the flavor is so good you just keep eating! My hubby had a mutton dish which was spicer, and he loved it. Price might be a little on the higher end, but the quality of food is wonderful and we both ended up with with leftovers for another meal later (so quantity was good too). My friend has eaten Indian at many places in Portland and says India Grill has the best food. Will definitely be back and will tell our friends about this place!!

  • Pros: Really Great Food, Fast Seating, Quiet Location
  • Cons: No Parking Lot

Worth a visit

by hb1736 at Citysearch

This place can't be compared to Bombay Cricket Club, because Bombay is "Upscale", expensive and you cant get in without reservations made well in advance on weekends at least. India Grill offers good flavor, decent service (they have always been cordial to us), "homey" atmosphere and the best Mango lassi I've found. It's not perfect, the place gets HOT in warm weather (its in a house, many tables are upstairs), the food is *good* (I have eaten Indian food up and down the Willamette valley, still the best I have found is at Evergreen in Corvallis), flavorful and generous.

  • Pros: flavorful, quality
  • Cons: , small

Gem of a restaraunt.

by cordels at Citysearch

I went on monday and really enjoyed their food and service. They are not pompous and surly as other indian restaraunts in town are, but very friendly. I ordered several dishes and really enjoyed all of them. Also the prices were very modest for such great food. They are also child friendly and this is very important to me,providing high chairs with a smile!

  • Pros: friendly service, Child friendly, good food

food: good / service: bad

by taliba at Citysearch

With an immense amount of hunger and an undeniable craving for Indian food, we set our sights on the highly recommended India Grill. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated and after a reasonable amount of time, our server came to take our order: vegetable samosas to start, a side of garlic naan and two vegetarian dishes. We waited and waited until our bread and main meals arrived. Where were our samosas? Apparently he forgot to write them down, so after diving into our main course, we asked if he could bring them out. Which he did, *after* we were finished with our meal. Overall, the food was good, though the portions a bit small especially in the naan department, four small slices wasnt adequate. The service is seriously lacking, our server wasnt so much rude, as he was detached. I most likely will not be returning to the India Grill.

  • Pros: good food, decent atmostphere
  • Cons: poor service, overpriced, small portions
