GOOD QUICK GREEK FOOD FIX!

by MANGERBEAUCOUP

I AM A FOOD FANATIC AND ABSOLUTLY LOVE MY GREEK AND MIDDLE EASTERN CUISINE. THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO STOP AND GRAB A QUICK BITE IF YOU ARE CRAVING SOME GOOD GREEK. THE SERVICE IS QUICK BUT SEATING IS LIMITED. THEY ALSO DO TAKE OUT ORDERS WHICH MIGHT SUIT YOU BETTER IF YOU ARE IN A RUSH. I ORDERED A LAMB GYRO W/ FETA AND IT WAS WHAT I WAS EXPECTING. NOT THE MOST EXCEPTIONAL GREEK FOOD I HAVE HAD (I EAT ALOT! FREQUENT MANY PLACES AROUND PORTLAND) BUT IT DID THE JOB AND PRICES ARE DECENT. THEY ALSO HAVE A FEW AISLES OF GROCERY WHERE THEY SELL SOME THINGS FROM OVER SEAS THAT YOU CANT BUY IN YOUR TYPICAL GROCERY STORE WHICH I LOVE BECAUSE I LOVE TO COOK. OVERALL I GIVE IT THE GREEN LIGHT TO STOP IN AND GRAB A BITE. ALSO I WAS WONDERING HOW THEIR SAGANAKI IS SO IF ANYONE HAS HAD IT LET ME KNOW...MAYBE I WILL HAVE TO GO TRY IT MYSELF.

Best gyros ever!

by spunkeone

I love this little hole in the wall family owned deli. I miss working down the street and having the option of getting a gyro for lunch. I still drive from the west side to get my Foti's Fix as often as possible. The prices are decent for the quality of the food and like the other reviewer said when you ask for feta you get a chunk... not just a few crumbles like other places! My favorite lunch is a lamb gyro with feta and an order of spanikopita. The lady at the counter still remembers me from when I used to have lunch there constantly and it really makes it a great place to go. I'll support a family run business before a chain any day.

  • Pros: awesome food that is authentic and they have grocery items!
  • Cons: its usually very packed at lunch time and may be hard to get a table

Great food, atmosphere

by oregonian4lyfe

The food here is great. When you order something with feta cheese on it, you get a whole huge chunk, you can tell that they aren't trying to scam people at all. Everything is priced really well for how good it is. If you like to serve yourself, go here and pick from a HUGE section of greek and american wine, beer, and regular drinks, along with package deserts and fresh made pastries. This place rocks.

  • Pros: They have a mini arcade too! WITH tetris.
  • Cons: Kinda shady area, so sometimes you get some freaks in there.

Best Gyros Ever! You won't find better unless Grandma's cooking!

by yujeee

This my favorite place to eat! If you wait all year for Greek Festival like me, you will love Foti's Greek Deli. I live about 45 minutes away from the little spot but I drive at least 3 times a month to have one of their PERFECT versions of a Gyro. The greek salad is absolutly delicious! Also try their Calamari, its a pretty small serving for the price but every bite is worth it, absolutly delicious. When you walk into the Greek Deli the appearence of the little place is almost like a family owned corner store. Not fancy by any means, but don't let that fool you the food is fantastic! Plus, if you don't like the atmosphere, take it to go! Seriously if I ever get married Im going to find out if they cater, no kidding you will never find a gyro or greek food to go that compares!

Caustic Brine

WOW. It's really hard to understand what all the other reviewers are talking about.

Maybe it was a bad day - but here's the way we saw it: Service was surly. No "family" atmosphere here - no cheap and cheerful attitude - genuinely rude service. Foti's obviously has no atmosphere whatsoever, but we were hoping the food & service would shine though the fluorescents.... It didn't.

Every dish was saturated in salt. The calimari was inedible and had to be sent back and ordered without salt. It returned... hurled onto our table by the angry server, totally bland. Since none of the tables had any salt and pepper shakers on them we had to ask. Our request came with a snotty glare. It seems the chef has never heard of finishing salt. The spanakopita was limp and soggy. It might have been decent if it were reheated in an oven and not a microwave. Without any doubt, the Greek salad at Fred Meyers deli counter is by far superior to the Greek salad served here. Again, this dish was marinated in sea water. After this "meal" we drank gallons of water for the rest of the day. We left Foti's feeling very unsatisfied and very unhappy. We will never return and cannot recommend this establishment to anyone. A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.

old style, consistently good

by evexo

Love this place! Love that they are not trying to be "fancy". Reminds me of the great little "hole in the wall" ethnic eateries I used to haunt in New York. Just a family working hard doing what they do best- making good food. The hoummas is uniquely garlicky- my 10 year old is addicted to it, the calimari crisp and light, with wonderful tsatsiki(sp?) to go with. Pitas are warm and fresh and fragrant. Prices are great, atmosphere is charmingly "no frills". Staff is sweet and familiar. The bulk feta (my favorite is actually the french), in the grocery case is better, and much cheaper, than anywhere else in town. Exotically packaged boxes of bulgarian chocolates from the grocery make fun, inexpensive last minute gifts.

Excellent Greek Comfort Food

by pdxgrll

What's not to love about this place? Best hummus on the planet, imho, personable and efficient service -- add a scrumptiously satisfying souvlaki sandwich and you're in comfort-food nirvana. Authentic -- however, throwing plates is NOT appreciated here. I found this out the hard way.

  • Pros: Food, service

Best Ggyros in the World! It's TRUE!

by sonikbaby

OMG this place is Addictive! I gind myself craving it at odd hours of the day.... Traveling across town in bad weather just to get my fix... The food is EXCELLENT! I go there weekly. It is our Saturday treat. The family that owns the shop is friendly and inviting. The facility is clean and they have lots of cool foreign candies and treats in the shop for cheap. The prices are right and man... my mouth is watering just thinking about it now.

Their sign on the front of the shop does not lie. They are the best in the world! At least as much of the world as I have seen ;)

Just go and experience it yourself. You will not be dissapointed.

  • Pros: Food is soooo mouth watering good...
  • Cons: None. Except maybe it could be closer to my house, like RIGHT next door! :)

Solid, quick Greek food.

by twoodburn

I have been going here off and on for years. A wonderful family has been operating it for many years. They are friendly and efficient. The Greek food is always authentic, freshly prepared and good. A small deli and grocery area can fill out most of your needs, if you are making some dinners yourself. Foti's is a tasty place without a lick of pretension attached. A perfect place to go for a quick lunch in or "to go".

  • Pros: Quick, authentic, friendly
  • Cons: not a date joint...well, maybe a cheap date
