Twice in One day...
by bboyblue82
Twice in one day...I suppose that deserves a review... We came in this morning for the bloody mary bar- I usually hang at this place at night- but had to check this thing out...two words LOVED IT....and now I'm sitting in their tropical paradise patio getting served by our favorite server Melissa...Let summer weekends never end.
- Pros: Bloody Mary Bar, Patio, PBR tall boys, Melissa
- Cons: Portland won't let us smoke in bars anymore :(
Warning Drunk People and Too Local
by moonerbing
Well I'm guessing from reading the reviews that the staff takes after their owner. Here is my experience. Along with all the other complaints which are true: Service is poor like being a snooty is a cool thing, Food subpar (I mean what do you expect at 2 in the morning, anything’s really good) but I did wait nearly an hour. BUT here is where it gets interesting. So after our food we started to eat and a group of four came in, one man being extremely large, probably 350 pounds. I didn't really notice his weight until he was half unclothed and prancing around the bar/grill sweating like a pig and lip syncing Bohemian Rhapsody! It was funny at first and no one seemed to mind not even our server, who obviously was friends with the bunch of locals. But after a spell of that and him engaging our table of 7 it was quite annoying to say the least. One of my friends addressed our server saying "Hey this is unsanitary, and rude, and even more ignorant of the staff not to do anything about it" he asked for a discount for the long wait and the ruckus of the fat man, she simple said no and went away. My friend came back to the table and was expressing his distant for the whole thing when the overweight Karaoke singer came up and confronted him with force and aggression. The server stepped in front and a screaming match ensued, along with his entourage waiting for a fight to break loose. The server slipped away to fetch a manager (if you can call him that) and the only thing he asked is if we had paid and if we had to get the F*&$ out. All this time my friend simply saying that the whole thing was unsanitary and inappropriate, we left got in our cars to 4 screaming locals telling us to go back to Arkansas! Moral of the story, Portland is weird but drunken locals are dangerous. I will be doing everything in my power to spread the word of the unsanitary and hostile environment with the lack of control that the staff and locals displayed! WILL NEVER RETURN AGAIN.
- Pros: Cant think of any
- Cons: Drunks, Locals, Service, Ownership, Staff
Many a Brilliant Idea Developed over Brunch
by northwestshopper
Holman's is a dive bar, all night diner with goofy drunken people, three in the morning when you can't see going home just yet, Sunday morning brunch with a good pal developing brilliant business ideas and subsequent meetings to close the deal, sort of place. The wait staff is vaguely friendly and decent, but they leave you alone to chat and are usually available when you need them. The food is diner mediocrity perfected. The wheel spinning is cute and kitchy, as is the decor, which only adds to its general good vibe. This is a great Portland place.
- Pros: Relaxed, Comfortable Atmosphere; Off-Street Parking; Coffee Creamer Variety
late night eats
by jicamalurver
I only go here if I'm hangin out in SE, and only after I've stopped at a few other bars. The food is kind of pricey, but it's large portions. The mac & cheese bites are pretty tasty. Also, the crowd is pretty funny, everyone's usually pretty buzzed so you might catch someone actin a fool, or a sweet fight. Last time I was there, there was a fight, or a prelude to a fight you might say. One guy says "back off, you're looking at me like you're on acid", and tempers flared. Hilarious!
- Pros: funny drunks
- Cons: spendy Shari's like food, and I've never seen anybody win a free meal

Campaign to have Bloody Mary Bar Everyday!
by asandy83
Bloody Mary Bar is all they say & more! Had a great time on back patio & LOVED making my own Bloody Mary! Im just sitting at work wishing when I get off in an hour that they had it set up for Happy Hour!

- Pros: Bloody Mary Bar! Back Patio
- Cons: Smoky Inside
Great Patio!
by Soggysneakers
As a professional landscaper, I find it hard to enjoy a scerene environment, let alone a outside patio that I can drink at with my friends at. The fireplace, waterfall, and the cool dead tree (where'd that come from anyways) makes Holman's the best patio I've seen!...Might even have to admit its better than my backyard! Truely the token treasure of the hood- even though I would like to keep it a secret, props, well deserved. The hot waitress brings replinishment before my Makers is empty and the sweet potatoe fries with a side of home made Roughford is bomb. Check out Holman's but stay inside the patios mine!
- Pros: Outstanding Patio
- Cons: ugly 80's umbrellas
Best Bar Tenders
by MsAshleyhotstuff
So, I come to Holman's to escape the coolness of the neighborhood, like I have been for the last five years. I have a drink and eat some great food (try the French dip!) So, I came in on Monday night and sat at the bar. My Bartender Rob was unlike any in the neighborhood. He was nice, cute, funny, spoke of good politics. And very eager to serve me... this all is a very uncommon trait in bars these days (especially in this neighborhood. blah!!!!) Most bartenders are so "cool" that you have to like be a hipsterass to get semi and I do mean semi good service. Just when I thought all was lost, Holman's saved the day once again. Most bartenders at Holman's are cool and by cool, I mean not too cool to serve you like you deserve.
Friday Night Blues Show Rocked the house!
by GreenPedel
Hadnt been into Holmans in awhile & stopped in on Friday night & had a great time. They had blues playing which I learned they have every Friday night & the place was going off! People were even standing up & dancing in the isles! I had a great time & even got a chance to try those Mac & Cheese things that everyones always talking about. Look forward to next week when I was told by one of the servers that the music will be on the back patio.
Not a Terrible place for a drink and cheap burger.
by manhat
So a friend and i went here bc its right across the way from the Laurel Theatre. The reviews on here were pretty harsh. It is a bar. It is a bar that serves food. It was alright, i mean, it went with the cheap drinks. The wait staff was real nice, but in a bar, the wait staff never has to be "real nice." The eatable food goes with the cheap drinks in an atmosphere that is easy enough to chat and be kinda loud, but its busy enough that its ok to yell.
Its not a bad place give it a shot if you are in the local.
