User Reviews for Yarn Garden

I have been to several other yarn stores in Portland and none of the others come close to matching The Yarn Garden's selection. They have three rooms stocked to the ceiling with skeins of yarns of every color and fiber, from the inexpensive to luxurious fibers like cashmere. I learned to knit at the The Yarn Garden about seven years ago and I would say that their classes are a good way to learn. As has been mentioned before, it can be hard to find what you are looking for. I would suggest going when you have some time to browse. Unlike an earlier review, I can't say that I have ever found Yarn Garden employees to be anything other than eager to help.

Pros: Staggering variety of selection

Cons: Can be hard to find what you want

I had a disappointing experience at Yarn Garden. I couldn't tell how the yarn was supposed to be organized--by brand, weight, color, material, etc--it was all quite haphazard. I encountered what I thought to be about three different staff members, none of whom even acknowledged me, so I left without making a purchase, which I had intended to do. I was also interested in taking some classes, but I doubt I will be back.

Pros: Large selection

Cons: Disorganized, staff indifferent

I like the yarn selection at Yarn Garden, but I can never find what I'm looking for, without asking for help. There is so much yarn there, and it's a little disorganized. The staff there is okay. Some of them are very friendly. Some are a little preoccupied. The sipperie next door is pretty cool. Good Coffee. I love that yarn garden also has community-service type knitting activities. Creating woolen helmet guards for our troops, etc. That's really a nice touch.

Pros: Nice Yarn, Community-minded, Good Coffee

Cons: Disorganized, hard to find what I'm looking for.

The friendly, knowledgeable staff at Yarn Garden are very helpful and interested in your knitting and crocheting ideas and problems. The shop offers a free clinic with instructor every Wednesday night until 8:00 for customers. Yarn Garden's offering of knitting classes is amazing. There are 75 classes offered per term from learning to knit to advanced. Class projects are beautfiful and geared to teach new techniques. Yarn Garden is an exciting and inspiring shop. They seem to have everything!

Pros: Friendly staff, Huge selection, Happening scene
