I take every one who visits me to the Perfume House - women who are out of town guests, children, mothers, grandmothers, grandchildren, professionals. EVERYONE wihtout exception has loved the experience. The staff is knowledgeable about the perfumes and will be as reserved or expressive as your demeanor requests. I was terribly shy and intimidated the first time I ventured into this place that reminded me so much of an Audrey Hepburn theater set. I discovered a wonderful place. The staff neither overpowered me with advice nor ignored me. Chris, the owner, is a prince. Make an appointment for Chris to tell you the stories behind the perfumes, how to wear scents (wihotu over powering others!), and the various "notes" (scents) (my favorite has over a hundred) that make up each specific perfume. This place rivals any perfume experience any where in the world.

i recently visited portland to visit family and the perfume house was on the list of shopping stops. my three sisters, my 82 year old mom and my 19 year old daughter decended on the shop at 5 pm at night, an hour before closing. the owners couldnt do enough. they must have showed us 3 dozen perfumes (at least) and the owner even went to the trouble to sit us down and give us a persentation of some of his most famous scents. never once did we feel pressured to buy. we all left without making one purchase but returned later in week to do so. when we did the sales person and another member of the family waited on us and we as wonderful as the previous day. professional, kind prices no higher than what you'd expect. actually, many prices are totally competive with what you'd spend in macys. this is the last of the great shops.
Pros: customer knowledge and service
Cons: simple street parking

For such a well known boutique I expected the service to be as great as their collection of parfums. I was highly disappointed with the inattentive service.
Pros: Large selection
Cons: Inattentive service, cluttered, street parking

I'm a native Portlander and finally decided to check out the Perfume House for Valentine's Day after passing by it for so many decades. The first salesperson who was free didn't bother to help me and instead helped the lady who came in after me. She had on dressier clothes than my hip street clothes. Don't know if it was racism, agism or classicism but it was offensive and insulting. I will take my money to Nordy's or Saks next time. It's not worth supporting a local business who has this sort of sales policy.
Pros: Local, obscure products
Cons: Poor customer service
