Keep it local with the real deal

Fantastic and the ultimate contrast to the big box theatres. In preparation for this weekend's oscars, I have been on a quest to see as many movies as possible and have gone to many different theatres around town. This one is the real deal - local, independent, and unusually affordable. The popcorn is made fresh before your eyes, tastes great, and is served with toppings like brewer's yeast (my favorite) and parmesan cheese. For half the price I had twice as much fun and felt good about supporting a local business in my own neighborhood. If you want to be treated rudely and spend a fortune on crappy, stale popcorn and flat, watered down pop, continue to go to the chain theatres. But, if you want to have fun in a cool place with character and save tons of dollars in the process, go to Cinemagic!
- Pros: Price and ambiance
- Cons: They don't take cards but have an ATM. Way easier if you bring cash.

The Cinemagic is a cozy little theatre. They usually have only one movie playing at a time, but it changes every week or every other week (except when Juno played for about a month straight last year, which was annoying. Very reasonable price- $6, or $4 for a student ticket. The ladies who run the place are awesome, and the inside is plastered with upcoming movie posters. The seats are old but comfortable. A very atmospheric place!
The first name in East Indian action flicks.

In Short
Hanging in there since the late '40s, Cinemagic survives by bringing in one quality film and running it for all it's worth. Independently owned, the theater has struggled in the past, and at one point almost went under. Today it offers good film picks and moderate prices, making it a solid neighborhood bet.

This is a charming old cinema that shows second run foreign and independant films in a very spacious theatre that even possesses rocking-chair comfort. Highly recommended if you missed the initial showing of a film that may have already played at more bland Regal cinema.
- Pros: rocking chair seating, good art films, charm
- Cons: films are 2nd run
