One of my favorite hideaways

by zombiechic

The headline says it all. Was brought here by a friend several months ago, and actually decided to come back on my own accord. There is something about this little hole-in-the-wall bar that makes you feel right at home. The outside patio has a nice little heat lamp that all the smokers huddle around, the poker consumes the entire back wall, if one of the guys stinks up the bathroom, you all must suffer, and the kitchen is literally behind the bar. But it is amazing all the same. It flows nicely and delivers the best vibe when you get a few average people on the stage (more like right in the middle of the bar so that you have to squeeze by them) shakin' what their momma's gave them grooving to some blues, or folk or whatever suits their mood. You cant help but keep the beat right along with them as you bite into your deep fried pickle and chase it down with a cold PBR.

I dig this joint

  • Pros: awkwardly comfortable atmosphere
  • Cons: little crowded

Hurry back, please Sunkist!!

by mocklaurie

Sunkist! The managment at MCT is the same as it has been for 6 years! I am still here! I am sorry to hear about your weird vibe night! We are all human and do have our "off" nights, but we always strive to give EVERYONE the best service ANYWHERE! We are proud of our friendly, fast, personable wait staff that actually ENJOYS serving customers and has fun while at work!

PLEASE give us another chance! If you have been there before, I know you had a great time! I can gaurentee you won't have another bad experiance! (I will beat all the staff with my wooden spoon immediatly!)

The food price has increased a bit, but still cheaper than Elmer's, Shari's, or most of the other resturants in the area. (And a heck of alot better, if I do say so myself!) We usually always have a great value on our special board. You know, those old recipes that my mom used to make. I have also been trying out a few new recipes lately: Strada, Pastas, Steak Salads, Pork Chops, Stews and Soups!

Please DO rush back and give us another chance! If you want, please let me know how your experiance was before you leave.

My apologies!

Laurie

  • Pros: It is the best bar I have ever been to.

Friendly service, clean, good food, and Lagunitas on tap

by thek

Friendly service, clean, good food, and my favorite beer on tap -- Lagunitas IPA. My family loves it here. My friends love it here. I love it here. Consistently good burgers. Ask the server, there may even be some tender steak available. In a veggie mood, as I am often, the hummus platter is a treat. Bring your laptop (or use the cool iMac on the back counter) to do your email. Not hungry? Just have a microbrew and mug of pickles. Music is awesome -- never a cover -- 5 nights a week.

  • Pros: Food specials, friendly, table service, Biergarten
  • Cons: May have to park around the corner on a music night

A tight piece of Portland - one of a kind for sure

by shorenuff

Wow - dunno what happened to the sunkist person, but I get the greatest service here. Smiling faces and table service like you don't get in any other tav I know - even outside in their beer garden. I love the "blues" burger and the home cookin' specials - real stuff like Mom made. Give us one of those big glass pitchers of IPA and we're home. Anyway, this is our local cause it's the friendliest bar in town. Everybody stops in - straight and nots, tats, boarders, young, old, white collar, blue collar - just a place I like to hang (and use their WIFI and computers).

  • Pros: cool old time tav that is clean and friendly, micros, killer burgers, great music
  • Cons: can be crowded when certain bands play (Sneakin Out for example!)

What is wrong?

by sunnkist

I have been a patron of this funky bar for many years, drinking and eating a few times a month. The other night we dropped in and found it not the same place it was a year or so ago. Can not put my finger on it. Could be new management or who knows. The service is ok, kinda slow, strange vibe. Not a happy bar. Same great food but it is more pricey I think. I dont understand, maybe just an off night for them but I wont rush back.

Fun local tavern with great food!

by golush

This is a nice treasure with plenty of neighborhood cheer and friendly faces! The burgers are great as well as the broccoli cheddar soup. Drinks are good with a wide variety of beers on draught.

  • Pros: Good fun, there is a shelf full of games you can play and there is often music.
  • Cons: The music is a bit loud at times.
