Good food cool portland chic
by eatpdx
We were new to the area and asked someone where we should eat and they said marco's. It was really good food, the hamburger was one of the best I have had in town also fried are good. Also the mexi salad was really good loaded with fresh stuff. I was to go back right now.
- Pros: food, people, umbrellas on celling
- Cons: small might be a wait
best breakfast grub in town.

My wife and I go weekly for breakfast and sometimes dinner. Rotating specials keep the menu interesting. The wait staff are great and know us now. Watch out at breakfast time because it is a very popular place. come early or late to avoid the wait.
One star because 1/2 star wasn't available

I've been a Marco's regular for more than 20 years. Today's experience left me stunned. My food was fine, but my friend's was cold. The waitress, after trying to justify the food being cold, took it back. When my friend got her plate back from the kitchen, there was only 1/2 order on the plate. After registering yet another complaint, the manager came to the table saying that the kitchen said she had already eaten half of it. (Not true!) My friend said she would eat it but pay for half. When the check came they took $5 off a $14 dish. After more conversation with the manager, and being blatantly insulted by her for complaining, she took some more off the bill. Overpriced. Rude service, and clearly no desire to keep regular customers. We weren't even offered a refill on our coffee! I'm not going back.
- Pros: Let me think...
- Cons: Attitude.
Very disappointed, won't be back

I have been a customer for many years, and have in the past patronized Marco's regularly. On my recent visit, my entree was so cold I just couldn't choke it down. The waitress and manager both suggested that if there was a bit of warmth in the food, my complaint was groundless. I found the ensuing customer service responses to be non-gracious to the point to being bizarre. I left in a state of shock.
What happened to Marco's??

Marco's is our family favorite in the Village. We go at least twice a week, and always take our out-of-town visitors. Unfortunately, the last few times we've gone, the food has not been up to par. Most recently, I ordered my favorite breakfast which is a feta omelette with avocado and the avocados tasted bad. Annyone who eats avocados knows a bad one! When I mentioned it to the waitress she blew me off stating that they cut them fresh daily. After my complaint, she wouldn't even look at me again. Only asking my husband if he wanted more coffee!!! On the way out the door, we kindly mentioned this to the manager and she automatically threw me some attitude saying they all tried the avocados and they taste fine. I felt SO bad. This is my favorite breakfast place! My husband says we should never go back. How sad! Anyone can have a bad piece of fruit now and then, the difference is the way you treat your patrons.
- Pros: On a good day, they have the best breakfast in town.
- Cons: It seems like you can no longer count on it to be good and the employees lack manners.
Wish there were more Marco's

I have been going to Marco's for years and it remains one of my favorite "go-to" restaurants. Great selection of food from Breakfast (served all day) to sandwiches, salads and full dinners means there's always something to satisfy. Excellent variety of vegetarian options, yummy desserts and friendly service. Very kid friendly! My only complaint is that they don't have more locations!
I haven't been there in two years, and now I remember why.

I went to Marco's two years ago and my dinner companion remembered it as a horrible experience. I had totally forgotten, but remembered upon sitting down. We got there two hours into dinnertime, and they were already out of two dishes we specifically were looking forward to. The last of the two specials was given to a couple who were seated after us and who was greeted in a timely fashion. We, however, were ignored for a long enough time that we were about to get up and leave just as the server finally came to our table. It was painful watching tables around us receive service, while the only one who acknowledged our presence was the busser. When we finally got our meals, we were ignored once again by not one, but two servers who seemed to tag-team our table, at their leisure. Overall, the food is overpriced ($12 for a salad and soup) and the service is rude (I heard two servers snidely discussing another table while standing just a foot or two from ours). Not recommended.
- Pros: Claims to be sustainable and charitable to the community
- Cons: Rude servers, overpriced food.
Excellent dinner specials posted on website daily, great brunch

Marco?s has become the go-to choice for dinner for my wife and I over the last few years. The regular menu includes excellent salads and good burgers, as well as the best French Dip sandwich I?ve ever had. But the nightly specials list posted on their website every afternoon around 3:00 is what keeps us coming back. You always know that there's something you'll like before you go.
There are usually 4-6 meals a night, including a couple of vegetarian choices that can have chicken or shrimp added if desired. You just can?t get the quality of meats and fish that Marco?s offers anywhere else at these prices. Portion sizes are rational, not the huge 3000 calorie feasts you see at Cheesecake Factory, etc. I suspect this helps keep the prices down to an affordable level. Service is friendly and competent, and the servers are happy to accommodate special needs and requests for small variations. There are a dozen or so carefully selected wines available by the glass or bottle at reasonable prices to complement your meal, and the freshly baked bread served along with dinner varies daily but is always excellent. You can even print out a coupon from the website that saves you a couple of bucks on your dinner.
Breakfast and lunch is also excellent. The Western Scramble is my favorite restaurant brunch, while my wife loves the French Toast made from Brioche bread. It can take a few minutes to get a table for brunch, especially on Sunday, but there are enough tables that you usually don?t have to wait too long. I think the best waitrersses work in the evening, though.
- Pros: Excellent quality and value, freindly, specials posted on website
- Cons: Can get noisy, limited parking, chairs don't encourage lingering
unique, friendly, and good food too

I think Marco's is great. It's a cute little neighborhood spot with a unique atmosphere and a lot of personality. The nightly specials are innovative and exciting. Where else can you get prime rib, halibut and filet mignon for those prices? I've had the same meal at other, overpriced restaurants where the quality was the same, but the menu prices were a whole lot more As for the breakfasts, the potatoes are nothing special, but everything else I've ever had for breakfast there was fantastic. The omelettes are huge and inventive, like the black bean omelette, and they have really good bacon and sausage. As for previous reviews, do you really think Marco's uses wonderbread for their french toast? I hardly think that a restaurant who strives to use organic, free range and natural ingredients (as it clearly states on the front of their menu) stoops as low as that for their french toast. I wonder if you even bothered to ask what kind of bread they use? Just wondering.
- Pros: cute atmosphere, friendly servers, unique nightly specials
- Cons: parking, quite busy at times, can be loud
not so good

I was really disappointed. I took my boyfriend to this recommended joint. Seating was fast on a SUnday morning, but, our coffee was not. We waited 15 minutes for the coffee that came just a minute before our food. We barely got our waters refilled. Had to get up to get our own Ketchup and hot sauce. My bacon was like it was put in the deep fryer and dripping with oil, and cold somehow too. The french toast was not soaked all the way through so I could really taste that cheap white wonderbread. And of course it was cold. The waitress apologized for our late coffee but still charged us for it. She did not inquire as to why I only had eaten about one quarter of my food.
