Spanish speakers not welcome
by portlandrenter at Citysearch
Our family was in town and for 8 years have stayed at the portland airport embassy suites with good results. This time the hotel was still great but an employee ruined our families trip we were in the lobby speaking spanish during happy hour having a good time. A manager "Udo" approached our table and asked us "if we could keep it down, and please speak engish instead". Our mother is from panama and doesn't speak english we asked to speak to his supervisor and he said he doesn't have one. We will never be back I hope this doesn't happen to another family.
- Pros: embassy suites quality, airport location
- Cons: terrible management
Great price for great accommodations

First these first two reviews totally make me laugh. Anyway, Embassy Suites at the Airport is awesome. Book via Travelocity to save some money. My wife and I have stayed here twice and have been impressed with everything both times.
Check in is quick and easy. There are kiosks in the lobby where you can check in without even messing with a clerk. The lobby itself is beautiful, open from ground to ceiling with streams, waterfalls, and elevators. A bar is at one end, opposite the dining area. The elevators are opposite the entrance.
The rooms are extremely comfortable. You enter into the living area, with a couch, chairs, table and chairs, and TV in armoire. The TVs are not flatscreen, but are large enough. In the middle is a kitchenette, across from the bathroom. Through a soundproof door is the bedroom with king bed, another TV in armoire, closet, and chair. Try to get a room on the east side of the hotel for views of Mt. Hood. Also try to get a room higher than the second floor, or a good portion of your view will be of the roof above the kitchen. The bed is very comfortable, with five pillows.
Try the pool, exercise room, hot tub, and sauna. The sauna is incredibly hot, and we had to leave quickly when our lungs began burning. There's plenty of free parking.
The included breakfast is amazing. There's hot and cold cereal, fruit, beverages, eggs, bacon and sausage, yogurt, potatoes, and best of all, omelettes cooked to order. This makes the Embassy Suites a real bargain, compared to the other local hotels that do not offer this service, yet cost as much or more.
We fully recommend this hotel.
- Pros: Amenities, included breakfast, pool, attractive lobby, free parking, ease of check-in and -out
- Cons: Poor views on second floor, may hear loud airplane noises
At this upscale, all-suite hotel chain, guests enjoy abundant amenities and a free cooked-to-order breakfast.

In Short
In 1984, the first Embassy Suites location debuted in Overland Park, Kan. Today, the property's luxury accommodations make it an ideal hotel for conferences, special events and weddings. All hotel rooms are spacious two-room suites that include a separate living area with a sofa bed and desk, a private bedroom, two televisions, a wet bar, a refrigerator and a coffeemaker. Guests may also attend a nightly reception with beverages.
Thank you management!

A great example of a comfortable business traveler oriented hotel.
I am particularly impressed with the hotel management. During a recent stay, there was a rowdy group that was enjoying the manager's reception a bit too much. They appeared to be quite intoxicated, and got extremely angry when they were refused more alcohol, and yelled at the bartender in Spanish. They left, only to return a short while later with bottles of their liquor, and then started screaming profanities in Spanish at the bartender and the other patrons at the reception. One elderly lady in the group was particularly obnoxious, not only singing "Cielito Lindo" at the top of her lungs, but also trying to do a drunken strip tease of sorts.
A manager politely intervened, much to the relief of everyone else in the reception area. I applaud that manager's professional handling of the situation.
