Favorite Family Restaurant
by feisty02 at Citysearch
I don't remember the first time I walked into the Kwang Chow Restaurant because I think my mom was pregnant with me. My family has been going there for years. My grandpa loved it because he could smoke and eat at the same time (although not everyone in the family enjoyed this). My parents loved it cause they could get a family dinner for a lower price. When I was about 10 or 12 years old, they use to let me go into the back and get an extra fortune cookie and an RC. Now that I am grown up, I can walk in there and they know my name, ask how my family is doing and the service is always excellent! I took my fiance in there for the first time and he is stuck. He loves it! Definitely one of these BEST Chinese food restaurants around!
- Pros: Food, Service and Price
- Cons: Smoking Area, Worn down, smaller
Are you crazy people???!!
by chiz at Citysearch
I read the reviews and many people seem satisfied with this restaurant. I called in an order for take out. I picked up my food but the food was not what I had ordered. I guess they didn't understand me or something!! The food was not good at all. The fried rice had no flavor and they sprinkled cut up pieces of bbq pork on top of the fried rice; basically it was rice fried with soy sauce, the sweet and sour shrimp had sauce that tasted basically like ketchup but sweetened, and the pork that I ordered was all fatty and gross. Come on people!! This is not a good restaurant. You must not have ever tried real chinese food!
- Cons: everything
Lunch Buffet was not good, small selection, not fresh
by sacorbin at Citysearch
After seeing the great reviews online, I thought this was one of THE places to try Chinese food. Unfortunately, I am again disappointed. I dropped in for lunch at about 12:20 and I was able to grab a table right away.....this should have warned me. If the food is that great, wouldn't there be a wait for a table? Going against my normal rule on dining out ,(do not eat at a restaurant if it is almost empty during a normally busy time of day) I grabbed one of the many open tables. I ignored the slightly stale smell of the place because all of the reviews said it was a funky diner but the food was excellent. I take a tour of the buffet (1 small section of hot food and 1/4 section of cold lettuce/fruit section), not a lot of choices but that's OK, I grab my plate and head to the hot food. Everyone said the spring rolls were awesome and the best they had ever tasted, I am not sure where they have dined at, but they were definitely not the best I had ever eaten. They had good flavor but the filling was not really distinguishable, everything inside was mushy and the outside was very greasy. The noodle dishes were better than the ones at the fast food chinese shops in the malls but the kung pao chicken had no flavor and did not look very fresh. The price of the buffet was the same compared to some of the other Chinese buffet lunch places around the city, but the other palces have a much better selection and better food. Overall it was a very disappointing lunch.
- Pros: Qucik Seating, Easy to find
- Cons: Food not fresh, greasy.
You will never find an eggroll this good again!
by beentoportland at Citysearch
You will honestly never taste another eggroll that is better, or one that can compare. My family has been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. Including Grandparents, parents, my siblings and all of our children. I have completely stopped going to any other Chinese restaurant because there is just not another place in Oregon, Washington or California that I have found that can even compare to this one. It is definately causal dining, with a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for children. It is not decorated fancy, but the food and the service is great. The same waitresses have been there for over 15 years, and they are married to the cooks. It is family owned, and even the daughters of the owners have worked there over the years. If you like spice just ask for some of the chili sauce on the side... it will make your mouth water and set your taste buds on a roller coaster ride. This is a must try restaurant. Every friend or extended family member that we have taken with us has become a regular return visitor, because they too can't find another place that has Chinese food that is this GOOD.
- Pros: Egg Rolls, Service, Price,
- Cons: None that I can think of

Locals flock for crab puffs, egg rolls and other Chinese favorites like chow mein at the no-frills restaurant that offers reasonable prices.
Not fancy but ecellent food
by magicwkr at Citysearch
Kwang Chow Restaurant has been my favorite Chinese food restaurant for about 15 yrs. They are a friendly group of people, their food is always good, and the price is right. My favorite dish is the pork noodle soup, "lots of pork" when ever I order pork noodle soup from other restaurants, I compare it to Kwang Chows and I have not found one that compares :no joke" Years ago I took my son there, he was 9yrs. old, they taught him how to eat with chop sticks and to this day he remembers them and always talks about how he learned to eat with sticks. Thank you Kwang Chow.
- Pros: Friendly, excellent food
- Cons: Not trying it.

Meatless dishes are delicious!
by jeanineruby at Citysearch
Kwang Chow has absolutely the best meatless almond chow mein and meatless fried rice. So fresh and delicious! Yes, you can go meatless at a Chinese Restaruant. This restaurant serves Chinese food the way American's like it. I'm so lucky it's in my neighborhood. And the people are so nice and friendly.
- Pros: Value, Good Parking, good service
Best Chinese in Portland
by getbusyliving at Citysearch
This is hands-down my favorite Chinese restaurant in Portland. It is very quaint and not much to look at from the outside or inside. But EVERYTHING that I have tried here is good and tastes better than anything I've tried in other Chinese restaurants. My favorites: the pork fried rice; egg rolls; egg foo young; sweet & sour chicken (no fatty pieces!). Very big portions, so you'll have leftovers. I get takeout a lot here.
- Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Large portions
- Cons: Ambience
