Best Mexican food in PDX
by stronzo at Citysearch
I came here after it was recommended to me by a Mexican friend of mine and she said she always brings her family here when they go out. She's a chef at a restaurant and I'd assume she knows best. So I went and it was sooo good. Ive been around but these folks are very nice and the service was great and I enjoyed my meal.
- Pros: Service, Food quality, selection
ask for extra hot salsa
by Raven777 at Citysearch
My son and I have started to ask for extra hot salsa (not what they serve you automatically) - and, on two occasions, the server brought us some delicious, freshly prepared killer salsa. On two other occasions, a server claimed she didn't know what we were talking about.
- Pros: good carne asada, fast
- Cons: sometimes not so good service
Great dining experience

I try to find one good restaurant for each ethnic cuisine. This one is definitely my default Mexican eatery.
I lived in New Mexico for a few years and this place was reminiscent of the many great Mexican restaurants there. Food was very fresh and tasty and served on plates that were too hot to touch. Staff was delightful, prompt, and attentive . Happily, it's close to my house and I will become a regular there!
- Pros: Fresh food well prepared; great attentive service
- Cons: Getting there if traveling north on Pacific Highway is challenging
Best I've tasted in Oregon

Fast seating, clean, friendly staff, quick service, good prices and GREAT FOOD!!! Dont be fooled by the modest setting, I've tried Mexican food in almost all States of the US and this was in my top 5. I am going back to this place again.
- Pros: WAY UP!!!!
Not the worst, but a close second

The decor wasn't bad, the service friendly and prompt. The food however missed the mark. Mediocre from the chips and salsa through the main dishes. It all tasted like frozen dinners that had been reheated prior to serving. Asabache came highly recommended, but this recommendation turned out to be misguided loyalty.
- Pros: Decor, Service
- Cons: Mexican food quality, authenticity
Great Mexican food

We love Asabache! The owner's name is Felix and he definately knows how to treat customers. We have been going to his restaurant for 6 or 7 years now, and the service is always exceptional. You can always tell how the owner treats his employees by the service you receive. The employees are always happy! Fish tacos are great.
- Pros: Happy employees, good food
- Cons: None

I didn't care for the taco's, as they were soggy, and fell apart in my hands. Everything else I've tried, is good. This is not classical Mexican cuisine.
The spanish rice was bland. The portions are good, not too small, not too large. Great help here, though. I like that.
- Pros: good parking, good food
- Cons: soggy tacos
Such a find!!

Find it! Tucked away in a non-descript strip mall, this family run Mexican restaurant is a true find. The service and food are some of the best I've had in the PNW (also see Romo's in Portland) and we will go back again and again. The people are friendly, the booths are beyond comfortable and the drinks are reasonably priced. Order a small combo and you get a genuinely reasonably sized meal that will fill you up for under $6. They always bring this great little free dessert to the table when you're done, just enough to tickle your sweet tooth and bring you back again.
- Pros: great food, super service, reasonable drinks
- Cons: Why not 24 hours? :)
This Gringo says, Muchas Gracias

As someone who has lived in Southern California and eaten at many Mexican restaurants, the food prepared here is the best I have eaten in the Greater Portland area. The Carne Asada Burritos are huge and very delicious, full of good and well prepared steak. I am staring to salivate right now just because I am writing about them. I am not one who eats Chile relleno, however, the other night I had them there for the first time & I was very impressed. The eggs were juicy and the chili was mild. The Chips and salsa are freshly prepared. If you do not like spicy salsa, you better drink lots of water.
- Pros: reasonably priced, authenticity of food
- Cons: entrance to park lot
