Good experience and service

by hoopla_pdx

I hate to do a review based on one visit, but that appears to be what several negative ones were. I went the other night for the first time in a year or so. The service was excellent, accommodating our custom requests.

The food isn't anything special, but just what you'd expect from a modern pub.

  • Pros: Family friendly, decent pub grub

Great location, decor and beer BUT.....BAD SERVICE!

by customerthatcares

Why do we keep giving this place another chance? Last visit we had to walk out after waiting in vain for service. Visit before that the kids melted down when dinner order was "lost" by staff. I had to get up and ask twice before anyone realized.

The menu always looks good with creative specials too.

This place should be a gold mine with lines every night, but they now use cheaper food ingredients and have high staff turnover. Service is consistently inconsistent and usually poor. They are not prepared on busy nights. Exterior seating is nice but expect a huge wait for food or beverage.

  • Pros: Tasty microbrews, good layout and setting
  • Cons: Always poor service, surly staff & food quality has slipped

A Cool Place To Drink Beer

by tobetoday

I visit this place from time to time and returned last week to try out a few beers. If you have not tried any of their specialty beers you should. Many types of craft beers that are quite unique and tasty.

Unlike another poster, I have never had any problem with the service at Raccoon Lodge. Like any restaurant sometimes it looks like they need more help than they have but that could just be the time of day. But I have yet to recieve poor or slow service.

I also like the variety of the menu, seems that every time I visit there is something on the specials menu that looks (and is) good.

  • Pros: Great variety of beers

Not a cool place to drink beer

by TaperBruce

After watching my beer sit for ten minutes while my idiot (server) chatted up a co-sloucher, I refused the beer and went across the street for some FRESH beer.

I've been there before. The service always bad. Always regret going.

Really, the beer is barely average.

VERY expensive. Entres are well over ten bucks.

You are not welcome and it's just a question of how much you'll put up with before you leave.

The place has that stench of failed business. I wonder what the building will be used for next ?

  • Cons: You feel like an idiot for going

It's About Award-Winning Beer!

by Tunajuice

Raccoon Lodge and Brew Pub offers some of the best beer brewed in Oregon. For those who rate brew pubs based on crayon count per table, there are other places you'll enjoy. Yes, it takes a while to get food in the restaurant upstairs...This isn't Chucky Cheese with beer! However, the downstairs Den is a cozy, adult-friendly, environment . The happy hour menu provides a great selection of inexpensive tastey pub fare, all of the standard Lodge brews, plus a number of specialty beers not available in the upstairs bar. Happy hour offerings in the Den are currently available all day Saturday and Sunday. A special note to lovers of tart/sour Belgian-style beers, Ron brews the best!

  • Pros: Fantastic beers and adult-friendly Den
  • Cons: Limited parking area

Good Food but the Worst Service I have EVER had ANYWHERE

by ttandac

I dine out probably 3-4 times a week & like to try different restaurants. My daughter & I decided to give the Raccoon Lodge a try on a Monday since they have a free kids meal special on Mondays. They had the WORST service that I have ever experienced in my entier life at ANY restaurant. After being having been seated, it was 15 minutes before the waiter finally made an appearance at our table to take our order. He introduced himself by saying "well, do you have a plan?" He absolutely had absolutely NO personality! I ordered the Mahi and requested that the sour cream and guac be left off, and he responded, "Are you sure that you want that?" After taking our order, it was another 15 minutes before the drinks showed up. I noticed that a couple that had arrived shortly after us got up an left because they hadn't be waited on after 20 minutes. We waited 30 minutes for the food, and it was brough out by one of the table runners and not our waiter. I requested a side of Salsa with my meal - the runner said she'd be right back with it and then never came back. Our waiter NEVER ONCE checked on us to make sure that everything was OK. Luckily the order was correct and the food was very good, but we could have used a few extra condiments that we didn't get a chance to ask for. We waited for 20 minutes after the meal was finished for the waiter to bring the bill. He didn't - he was too busy tending the bar the whole time. I asked the hostess if a manager could be sent to our table so I could mention the lousy service. Waited another 10 minutes, no manager showed up. I finally walked up the bar and requested the bill. The waiter remarked that he was sorry about the delay, it was because they were so busy. Funny thing is for the first 45 minutes I was there they were not that busy at all. Since I can't deal with that kind of poor customer service, I will NEVER EVER return. It's too bad because the food really was good.

  • Pros: Good food, nice atmosphere
  • Cons: HORRIBLE Service

Good Beer, Good Burgers, Good for Kids...

by noponyrx

Not sure what the problem was with the other reviewers. This is not a fast food joint, it's a brewpub. Take some time to savor your beer. The servers were always accomodating when I asked them to bring the kids' food first. Great salad. Servings are huge! Kid's menu provides large portions. Friendly witty staff...

  • Pros: Good Food, Good Beer, Sparkling Clean, Great Fries!

On The Waterfront at the Oregon Beer Festival

by trainwrecks

I have never been to the Raccoon Lodge However I did frequent their booth during the recent Oregon Beer Festival on the waterfront this past weekend .The Food I ordered 3 days running was their BBQ bricuist. Yummy ,it's was mighty tasty to me . Plus with the HUGE crowds the service was good . I assume that they also serve BBQ at their restaurant . I would recommend this place based upon the BBQ that they served during this Huge Event .

  • Pros: This was on the Waterfront
  • Cons: Know nothing about their Restaurant

Nice surprise

by rogerho

A fellow from work told me he had had perhaps the best burger ever at the Raccoon Lodge. Since we often trade eating tips over our "cafeteria" lunch, I decided to see if his tips could hold water for me one more time, as he has always been on the mark... I was not disappointed.

We were seated quickly and politely, and the waiter was on our table in a moment with menus and water even though they were quite busy. I spied a seasonal brew and asked for a pint. The waiter promptly asked me if I would first like a taste of the "seasonal brew" they offered as it was quite unique, and I accepted. He saved me the price of a brew I was not fond of. The brew ultimately did I order was terrific, and so was the second style.

The atmosphere was good. We found it clean and crisp. There were several families sitting around us making normal background noises, but we noticed we could converse at normal voice levels with one another due to the "private" acoustics which seemed to surround our booth.

The burger was absolutely terrific, right down to the Kaiser roll style fresh bun. You could taste the beef! The fries served with the Cheeseburger were abundant, but were gone before I wanted them them to be. Adding to the experience, the restrooms were clean. We have had so much less for more than twice the price recently , I suggest you give the Raccoon Lodge a shot soon!

Well done!

  • Pros: Food, service, brews, honest wait staff
  • Cons: Parking lot was nearly full...

Great Beer, huge nachos!!!

by truthis11

We've been going to the Raccoon Lodge for at least 2 years now and my kids, husband and I love it there. We actually go there once or twice a week. They are always super nice to our kids and we enjoy the fam atmosphere. We don't go there to have lamb and shellfish of corse but when we want a burger, beer and have the kids ,it's where we go. The service has never been unsatisfactory and we haven't been disapointed with what we've ordered. We go for beer and nachos and occasionaly a cocktail when we don't have the kids. We have lived in the neifhborhood for a couple of years and I haven't found a better "local" portland biz to take my family to. Thanks to all of you, d
