Wonderful place to purchase a car!
by datkinson
This is the second time I've purchased a pre-owned car from this dealership. Both times were positive, but this last time was truly remarkable. As a non-car person, I dreaded the process of researching cars and then. But again, The process at Ron Tonkin Acura was simple, clear and collaborative: I shared my needs and price range with my salesperson, Will Gilliland, and he showed me quality cars in that range. It felt to me as though Will actually wanted to help me get a car that would work for me (NOT just make a sale)
I felt respected the entire way through the process (even when they saw my VERY old and VERY worn 1990 trade-in) and I feel confident they will be there to help should I have questions or experience problems. No pressure, no "car sales game", no obnoxiousness.
Certainly, Will Gilliland was a major part of my positive experience. However, its clear he is backed up by a company that values and supports this kind of honest and simple interaction.
I plan to keep this car for a very long time (like I did the last one), but when I need another, I will absolutely be back to Ron Tonkin Acura.
- Pros: professional, no-pressure, honest, fair.
- Cons: honestly can't think of any
Service just like the cheap automall down 82nd

over one week of corresponding with Ron G. thur emails i thought i found my used car. i even went and got pre-approved so i wouldnt be wasting my time and theirs. i gave him 3 opportunities to give the price of the vehicle and each time he had a different tactic to distract me. first time i asked was when i arrived and he he says first off i need your license. ok fine. then i asked him before testing the car and then he asked for the pre-approval letter and insurance. ok. after the test drive wife and i asked again. then he says,"i dont know. maybe you'll want to also add addition warranty. lets go in to see what it is." another hour was then wasted on loan applications so they can earn their fees. i then asked him why they need a new application and he says that they need a hard copy for the sale. i didnt find out the price til the finance officer asked if everything on the car was disclosed. i told him no. he then turned the screen around and showed me the price. WOW. 700 dollars more than i was emailing him and 700 more than my loan approval. they wanted me to down 700 when i gave the Ron 3 opportunity to reveal me the price. we walked. Ron tried to say it was a misunderstanding and that it was just 700. what a fool i was. he CON me like all the cheap shops. all i wanted was a apology and my price, no downpayment, but he just jabber on about how this was all a misunderstanding. i finally got him to admit he mislead me and say that he was sorry, but it was too late. we wasted 3hrs of our night out. 2wks later now they have the car advertised on crglist for 600 less than what they tried to cheat me on. i got a better deal thru private and love the credit union experience. that transaction only took 1hr. RON Gil at RON TONKIN ACURA tried to con me.
- Pros: lots of variety of cars to choose from
- Cons: dirty 82nd avenue sales tactics
Wonderful Experience All Around
by christiewi
In shopping for our most recent car purchase, we had a wonderful experience with Ron Tonkin Acura. We were looking at a couple of different makes and models, and ultimately had decided on a used Acura MDX. We worked with Rich Villastrigo and cannot rave enough about him. He is personable, knowledgable, honest, and passionate about what he does. His communication, whether via phone or email or in person, was always prompt and considerate and never pushy in any way. He found out exactly what we were looking for and followed up multiple times with accurate options. The dealership itself is welcoming and well organized, and their reputation is unmatched. In the end, we found a private party sale that we simply could not pass up, but we hope to purchase an Acura in the future, and when we do, we will definitely be calling Rich at Ron Tonkin Acura. Nothing but rave reviews!
- Pros: Outstanding line of cars and unmatched customer service
- Cons: That we didn't get our car from them :(
Wonderful Experience

It was time to trade in my older second car for a newer second car. I dreaded getting the insulting rock bottom trade-in offer/high bid on their car run around... BUT!! After meeting and discussing my needs with Ron Glichrist on the Tonkin Previously Owned Lot affiliated with Tonkin Acura on Canyon Road, I knew that he was professional in in the best sense of the word. Had a respect for his company, respect for the customer and a goal to give his best service to both of us. I told him what I reasonable expected for a trade in and the car was evaluated and they agreed on my price. Then, once I knew what I had in trade as well as cash in pocket we shopped their online inventory to find the very best car to meet my criteria. He didn't show me cars outside of my price range and then try to sell me financing... I came away with a great car. Joss Greene at theTonkin Acura Finance office (just down the street) had my paperwork waiting to sign when I walked in! I was so relieved to find honest people to work with that I think I grinned like a goofball through-out this whole transaction ;o) The awesome manicure was the frosting on this very nice cake.
- Pros: Straight Talk No BS
- Cons: none

BEST PLACE TO BUY A CAR
by LumiG
"My husband and I moved to Portland, Oregon not to long ago, and needed to buy a car. Serching for a car on the net making appointments it is quit the work. But I can tell you I am soooo glad to have made my appointment to see an Acura TSX at Ron Tonkin. I went there and I asked for the Sales associate whom I was supposed to see, Steve D. He was really nice showing me the car and went for a test drive. As we were test driving it, I had questions about other cars. As we enter the driveway back, I saw a Nissan Altima on the lot and asked to test drive it. So I did. Biiiig difference. The day before my husband was telling me about the Acura TL's. As we approach the parking lot back from the Nissan testdrive (as this was also a choice on our list) I have asked Steve to tell me more the difference between TSX and TL. Of course as my husband was saying TL was a better engine more luxurious car. I get ready to leave when Steve said: There is a TL right here in the parking lot, would you like to test drive this one? HMMMMMM!!!!!! Sure, I said. I can only tell you as soon as I got in that car I did not want to get out. What imppressed me also the most was not only how the car drove and felt, but how much Steve knew about it. How well he discribed pretty much every feature that came with it (nav. system, blue tooth for your phone, sunroof, surround sound, etc.) to name a few. I was very impressed and at the same time so happy to hear about it. Now, yes, the car itself really made me feel comfortable when I got in, but if it wasn't for Steve I would have never known all the things the car can do. The car, YES #1, but the service from everyone involved was really a big part in making my decision. EXCELLENT.
RON TONKIN ACURA ROCKS!!!"
- Pros: Excellent SERVICE
- Cons: NONE
Better than the Mercedes dealer, by far
by NotJeff
We have a Mercedes and an Acura and Ron Tonkin Acura has far better service than the Mercedes dealer. Service always exceeds expectations and they always do something more than they were asked to do. The stitching on the steering wheel had come lose and instead of repairing it, they replaced the steering wheel. One time the car was in for service and they replaced the wind shield wipers for free. By the way, we bought our Acura from a dealer in the San Francisco area and went to Ron Tonkin when we moved here. Don't bother looking for another dealer, this is the best service department we have ever found anywhere.
- Pros: SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE
- Cons: Getting out of their parking lot onto Canyon Road requires steely determination
Actually look forward to all things Beaverton Acura

Um, what can I say? Most dealerships make you want to take a hot shower when you are through. Not Acura. The salestaff is made up of normal people, that make quick, dead-on best price deals, no bs. The big cheese there is a family firiend of a close friend. So CLEARLY not my friend, but when we went car shopping together; he made me the same killer deal he made her. And afterwards, at oil changes and such, he always remembers me and not in that 'name on a 3 x 5 card' kind of way.
Also- duh, pedicures, manicures and massage all are available during servicing- as are lattes and the like, sodas, whatever. They wash your car - in side and out - after anything they do with your car and leave big ol' dark chocolate medalions in your car. They always give me three, because I have three kids. My hubby drives one too, but he only gets one : )
A total pleasure, every single time. Even if you are buying another 'breed' of car, ck the Acura ads bc a ton of people trade in their MB, Audis, BMW's there, so they do have other kinds. My friend bought a Volvo wagon on the day we went in. anyhoo, I never write reviews, but seriously loathed car shopping before this.
- Pros: massage, lattes, intelligent normal sales staff
- Cons: None
Great buying experience
by PLocal
Like most, I don't like working with car salespeople. My husband and I just to look and test drive and collect information on a car like we'd done on two other types. Didn't plan on buying a car, but they were so reasonable on my price and made the experience painless. Very professional, I'd definitely go back. And I LOVE my Acura TL so much. Much better than the Audi A4 or BMW 3 series we'd also went and drove. Go Ron Tonkin! Go Acura!
- Pros: no pressure
- Cons: none that I saw
