You can't do better than this.
by Joseph Mortin
The combination pizza here is seriously the best I have ever had. I tried the lasagna the second time we went and it was also amazing. The food has that hearty Italian flavor that is missing in some of the fancier Italian places I have been. This is simple, Italian cuisine at it's finest!
- Pros: Amazing food, great staff, best pizza in town
- Cons: I wish it was closer to downtown!
Great Food and Wonderful People
by portland local
The people that compare this place to Olive Garden are out of their minds. You are unqualified to comment on Italian food if you have ever set foot in Olive Garden. To say you would rather go there than Ernestos basically disqualifies anything you say....
The food is great. Always hot and delicious. Great portions so plan on leaving with a second meal. The simple pasta dishes are the best thing on the menu although the chicken dishes are excellent as well.
Ernesto's is a family place and the servers are more mature and yes, less enthusiastic than the teenagers at say, Olive Garden. I appreciate the fact that they don't blow smoke up my a@@ everytime I walk in the door. They do however know my entire family by name. They know where we like to sit and what we like to eat. The manager takes care of us personally everytime we come in. She goes so far as to spoon ice cream into my babies mouth. My 2 year old knows her by name and starts asking for her as soon as we hit the parking lot.
- Pros: Delicious food and friendly people
- Cons: None

Great Banquet.
by Dcgrav
My work had a business banquet there last month, I had never been before and I loved it, so I took my wife there the other night. I think it's going to be our new favorite place.
(We had pizza the other night! It was amazing)
- Pros: The pizza
- Cons: none

Delicious Hearty Food & Friendly Service
by MGreen
Ernesto's has been a favorite in my family for many years. We always enjoy the fresh bread, delicious flavors, comfortable booths, friendly service, and unpretentious atmosphere. It is always worth the drive, but we wish they would open a location of the east side of town.
- Pros: warm fresh bread!
- Cons: needs a location on the east side of town
WORST ITALIAN FOOD-GARBAGE
by angelob
Living in New Jersey for 15 years, I was attending a trade show in Portland and tried Ernestos for dinner. Where do I begin to describe this place? The marinara sauce is worse than Ragu from a bottle! Thick, red paste? The pasta is so overcooked. The chicken must have been in a warming unit for hours-the meat had shrunk off of the leg bone from being in the warmer so long!
Not a chanceany of the sauces were homemade.
I'd bet they went from the Cisco foodservice can directly to the noodles.
Service? Please! The 18 year old girl was clueless with no attention to detail.
I feel sorry for you folks in Portland if this is what you consider "authentic Italian" food or even "good Italian" food. It's garbage! It's not even close to how Italian food should be prepared, served or eaten. Someone should fly the owners and chef to the East Coast for a weekend to try real, authentic Italian fare.
If you want the same "quaity" food as Ernestos, try Chef Boyardee at home and save a few bucks.

Family Italian
by Post
Consistency from day to day and across the menu highlights Ernesto's and has for decades. The setting is pleasant, the rooms quiet, and the decor with its scenes of Italy enchanting.
They also do events and banquets well in separate rooms and did so for us, sensitively and graciously, after a funeral for a family member. We have not forgotten that.
Great food and great people.
- Pros: Modestly priced excellent Italian fare with fine service
- Cons: None
AWESOME and AUTHENTIC
by bexscot
My husband (who is100% Sicilian) and I have been searching for a great Italian restaurant since we moved to Oregon almost five years ago, well, we found it. Ernesto's is like being in my husband's grandmothers kitchen. We so enjoyed our experience we plan on coming back at least once a month. Molto Bene'!!
- Pros: Great food and atmosphere
- Cons: A little bit cheesy..but I LOVE cheese : )
