The food is always awesome. The help is friendly The no smoking is wonderful. My late husband proposed to me there at the small table in the corner. And that's where my new boyfriend was sitting when I met him. So I couldn't say anything bad about Tillys at all.
Pros: It's all good
Cons: The dance floor could be bigger

hi there, i am writing a review because of the review about the old staff "stealing money." this is absurd. I am one of the gals that used to work there, and i will have you know that we were fired. we did not quit and we did not steal money. i used to miss the tilly a lot and all of my regulars but, they have found me and others at the Pitstop not too far away from there, come in and join the fun, if you are missing the old fun and great staff from the former tilly we aren't far away come and see us.
Pros: none
Cons: everything

I want to know why everyone is so owner loyal! Everyone just needs to grow up and realize that it's still the same place, with the same bands, the same menu, and the same cooks. The only difference now is that the staff is unable to pocket money like the old staff did. That's why they left! The old owners were losing $10,000 a month to the old employees! Why do you think they were so quick to sell when they had an offer? There was no system in place for orders which means there was no way of tracking the money. The old employees chose to leave because they couldn't make the same kind of money they were used to with the new system in place. If everyone is so loyal to the old owners, why are they okay with people pocketing their money? These sticky fingered employees left the new owner hanging so he had to find new staff fast. Yes.....some of the staff is current staff from other establishments, past staff, and friends of staff. So what?! They know the computer system and don't pocket money! They stepped up and took on the chaos of that place when the owner was in a bind! That's loyalty! Biting the hand that feeds you isn't! So, let's all just grow up and accept that this is business. Companies sell all the time to others and just don't say anything. Just be customers, have a good time like you're supposed to, and stay out of the inside drama!
Pros: hard workers, good music, and no smoke
Cons: some people go there to find a reason to complain

The Tillicum broke new ground 2 years ago by going smokeless Great food, music, & friendly service made it more like an English pub than an American bar. However, after 2 ownership changes, it is a horrid place to go. The last management change fired all of the old staff and brought in people from the strip clubs they own. The drinks, the food and the staff are now equally terrible. Last week I talked my wife into going back(she was upset when the new owners fired or drove out the old friendly staff). We ordered a gin&tonic and a vodka collins and received a vodka tonic and gin&collins. When we sent it back, the bartender refused to admit she made a mistake and the waitress returned the drinks to our table. I took them back to the bar and quite calmly requested to have them remade. She sat there and argued with me that she made them correct and I couldn't tell gin from vodka! Then our appitizer came out and what used to be a full plate of clam strips was reduced by the new management to a few scraggly peices on brown lettace. We quietly paid our bill and left, never to return again.
Pros: Non-smoking
Cons: New management has ruined the bar

After being a patron at the Tilly for many years, I have to say the new owners are killing this place, I have been ignored by the new help,on three different occasions, Which did not happen with the old crew. New owners say the crew quit because they did not like to new system they put in for orders/tabs.(Which did slow down service, andd still does)but the story from insiders is that they fired most, to bring in their own. I was there 10/20/07 and sat there with no drink for almost ten minutes til I could stop one of the girls that had passed me by at least three times. Overall, The place is a good club, good entertainers, good food, moderate prices, but poor management and some of the help needs to focus on their cust svc. ED
Pros: Good food, good music, some of the help
Cons: small dance area, poor svc from some.

Loved the Tilly for years. Lately it seems they cant keep management, cant keep servers, and cant make up their minds about how things should be. With music its always been loud. In the past the food was good enough that we would call in to go. Expensive for bar food but fair for the quality. The Tilly had slowly been going downhill and the last time we gave it a chance will unfortunately be the last. The food was so bad when we got it home (close) we couldnt even eat it, just threw it away. Maybe someday they will regain the glory. I'm not holding my breath.
Pros: proud past
Cons: food should taste good in the mouth, not like the can it came in

This is a bar with great food and great music. The happy hour is one of the best in town. Good food and good drinks at a great price.
Pros: Great food and great music
Cons: crowded on some nights

Frequent live music, with special emphasis on blues. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Good music and dancing on Saturday nights, but the dance floor is cozy. No smoking, which I guess is good, but I kind of miss the smokiness.

Such good music at this place, but it blasts your ears out in that small space, and there is room for only about three couples on the dance floor! I'm so glad they banned smoking, and it's nice to get in free; but what a waste to have great music and be unable to rock out....even between the tables, no space! ;-( Food is greasy/icky; best reason to go is the music, which is good. The barrage from televisions is very distracting; I wish there were no TVs at all.

This is one of our favorite places in all of Portland! The owner is super nice and is often times waiting tables and chatting it up with her customers. Atmosphere is down-home cozy, smoke-free and everyone is ultra friendly. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner - we often go for breakfast. Try the 'Hamilton', its a staple on Sunday morning (along with the best bloody-mary in portland)... great patio in the summer too. This is the perfect location for half-time cocktails during the Jesuit games.
Pros: Service, Food, Prices
Cons: None
