My best friend took me to Widmer for lunch once on a visit to Portland (lastyear) and its one of the reasons I decided to Move from California to PDX!!!! NOW, I am a weekly visitor...I cant get enough of the down home "comfort food." Its a Great location for me (North PDX) They have... Great food, Wonderful Beers (and I dont even like BEER) decent prices, and "speedy on the ball service" every time!!! Aside from the desserts, I enjoy the menu that comes from Widmer along with their many tasty Specials...IE: Jalapeno cheese dip w/ Bread is MY FAV!!!! I LOVE the Comforting foods like, the Pretzel w/ fondue, Goulasch, Filet mignon, Salmon, Caeser Salad and the Schnitzel is to DIE for. However you are not always greeted with the same WARM & FUZZY Customer Service as Mom's Place. You really have no idea what mood the person greeting you is in when you open the door. This place is always busy- but gets my order right and my FOOD FAST and HOT. If the Hostess maybe seems to be on "something" (some kind of mood stabilizer)... I really CANT COMPLAIN... Because the food is worth it here. I know my share of Resturant Customer Service...and Widmer has defiantly some of the best waitress and waiters in town who will at most times remember you if your a frequent visitor..... The atmosphere is HOPPIN... ha-ha (just a beer joke). The youth in the room take over the old town, stuffy feel of the Brewery. The root beer is the BEST EVER!!! And my favorite thing to do is sit next to the window and look at the Fremont Bridge and the PDX skyline and GRUB... Man, if I didnt have to pay, I would feel MORE at Home. I love this place.

Pros: Great food! Great Spirits!

Cons: Good luck on parking and with the hostess (its a good thing all she does is seat you)

I have been to Widmer a number of times and been pleased with the food and service, but my last trip to Widmer might be just that, my last. I eat out a lot and have had a range of service levels, but my experience at Widmer was hands down the most rude. A fairly large group went to Widmer to celebrate a birthday. The woman sitting next to me in our group ordered a glass of wine and asked to server for a recommendation and the server said "look I deal with hundreds of people all day, how am I supposed to know what people want?" She was so frustrated that she said just bring me anything to which the server responded in an irritated tone "can you at least tell me if you want red or white." I know that Widmer is a brewery not a wine merchant, but I would expect them to at the very least make a recommendation. Shortly after this happened, our last member of our group joined us, upon returning to the table the server said to him "where the hell did you come from?" Did I miss something?? Did Widmer get bought out by (short for richard since Citysearch won't let me say it) Last Resort? I get better and friendlier service at the DMV....ok maybe that is pushing it.

Pros: Great Beer

Cons: Service

I have eaten at the Gasthaus 4-times now and selected a different menu item each time. I am so impressed with the quality of food served at this restaurant.

Pros: In the Ent. Book, Oktoberfest beer, Lots of street parkin

Cons: , Staff too serious

I found Widmer to be one of the best brewpubs in the area. The place is often crowded, but the wait is well worth it. I was very interested in the collaboration beers that they had on tap. Some where very good. The food pairs very well with the beers, and the staff was generally very attentive and helpful with just enough knowledge to play along with some of the hardcore beer geeks asking "gravity" questions.
