I want to like this place; the concept of car service is always appealing and retro. I go here about once a year to give it another chance; I keep getting disappointed. I ordered the "homemade" chili and asked for cheddar cheese( I was afraid they would top it with American cheese). Lo and behold, here comes my chili with torn pieces of American cheese with slight indentations of fingerprints, gag! Not only should processed cheese be illegal, but on chili! As I proceeded to pay my bill at the register, I was informed that they only take cash. However, you are quickly informed that they have an ATM(with the $1.75 fee). No good indicator on the door that they are cash only. Sorry Skyline, you have disappointed me one too many times.

  • Pros: copious amounts of syrupy strawberry lemonade
  • Cons: top everything with American cheese

This was possibly the worst burger I've ever had. The patty was thin, the fries and onion rings were greasy. Basically the hike up the mountain in the fog was not worth the food we got. The price was cheap and the shakes were ok, but the burger sucked and wasn't worth the drive.

  • Pros: The server was nice, and the shake was tasty.
  • Cons: Thin patty, greasy fries & onion rings.

I love driving up to this old drive-in atop Skyline Blvd. It has been around since the 40's I believe. They have comfy red booths that fill up quick for lunch. This place is a local favorite. I love the strawberry shakes but they usually offer many seasonal flavors. Like stepping back in time.

If you like overcooked, greasy burgers with no taste beyond the grease then this is the place for you. Ironically the other menu items fare better than the burgers, but to rate this the best burger against Heathman, Castagna and many others is simply ludicrous. Even Helvetia Tavern, which has slipped in recent years, offers better burgers and better fries. Sorry but don't believe the hype on this one.

  • Pros: Bad, greasy burgers
  • Cons: Atmoshpere

The Skyline has been around forever.

Go whenever we can.

Recommend to friends.

Burgers and shakes are definitely worth the long drive from the east side.

This place is just the best! The burgers are huge and cooked perfectly with all the works. The fries are perfectly cooked and their milkshakes are thick and creamy. Great atmosphere and awesome service! This is one of our favorite Saturday lunch spots.

  • Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere!
  • Cons: none

Me and my girlfriend went to Skyline restaurant for the first time because we read that skyline was the number 1 burger joint. When we arrived into the restaurant the first thing we noticed was all of the great reviews all over the wall and also the great long history this place possesses. The place was packed but we only had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. We were met by our waiter whose name was Paul B. and we told him this was our first visit to his establishment. He was very pleasant, he was also very helpful with the menu. We were touched by Paul making this one of the best experiences we have had, with restaurants. We both ordered burgers with the works and we really loved them, the texture was just fabulous. My girlfriend ordered onion rings also and they were as advertised, very very scrumptous. For desert we had the great option of ordering all types of delicious shakes and we decided to try the pecan pie shake (For Me) and my girlfriend tried the bananna cream pie shake. Both shakes were just so very delicious. Overall we were very very satisfied and we felt that our waiter Paul B. was the best waiter we had ever experienced. This place really stood up to the hype of being the number 1 burger place. Outstanding food and outstanding service, we will definitely go to this establishment again.

  • Pros: Service, professionalism, food
  • Cons: restroom outside around corner

Skyline is a rare breed in the Portland/Beaverton area. The focus on gourment in most local places leaves few places serving classic American burgers. Cheap but good burgers without the fluff makes Skyline a craving satisfier. My favorite meal here is the skyline cheeseburger with onionrings. The onion rings alone keep me coming back. Remember they only take cash, but there is an ATM inside.

  • Pros: burgers and onion rings
  • Cons: pale french fries, parking can be bad, cash only

After writing this review, the next day (Sunday) I called and talked to Michelle, the owner and told her of my experience. She was speechless, and to use her words, 'horrified', of my experience. She was VERY apologetic, and couldn't understand how I'd had such a 'horrible' experience, and offered me a very generous gift certificate. I told her I didn't call for that reason, but to inform her, as I'd been a business owner and always appreciated any negative feedback, as well as good. Though this was over the phone, I could tell in her voice, there aren't enough words in the English language to describe how badly she felt, and how heartfelt her apologies were. She was very sincere, and literally begged me to let her send me a gift certificate and to please give them another chance, stating that they STILL serve excellent burgers. I relinquished, and just as she promised, yesterday I received it in the mail. I will use it and write another review, based on that experience. I'm looking forward to it, as I DO remember how good it was previously.

  • Pros: Very friendly staff, cool atmosphere
  • Cons: Order not correct, poorly packaged, low-quality, expensive for what you get.

the first time i went to the skyline they were closed. i was with a friend. we had (apparently the word ess eee ex isn't allowed) in his car in the parking lot. a few months later when another friend of mine suggested we go to a place called the skyline for burgers and milkshakes...how could i refuse? i had never been...this place is so vaguely familiar. could it be?

i disagree with the "no" re: Romantic.

c'mon. ... in the backseat of a car after midnight in the parking lot of an old diner that makes the BEST chocolate malts in town?

yummy cheeseburgers! amazing milkshakes and when the waitress forgot to charge us we didn't split because it isn't polite to dine and dash.

okay sure: i wish they were open until 10 or 11pm. it's summertime in the city...

  • Pros: definitely pros when it comes to making chocolate malts!
  • Cons: i don't know. ex-cons? yeah sure. stay open until late during the summer!

The everything burger is just excellent-- it's three meals in one and ideal for sharing with someone else. The fries are pretty mediocre, but the onion rings make up for this. The shakes are fabulous. This place is the ideal post-zoo-trip spot to grab a meal, however it can get very crowded and the lack of other options in the area can lead to a disappointing trip if they're packed full. The clip-on high-chair-like seats for kids are handy given the narrow aisles-- just be sure to put the kid on the inside or you'll get trapped in your booth. As mentioned before, this is cash only so those of us who generally rely on credit cards will need to plan ahead or pay some incredibly punitive fees at the third-party ATM on site.
