I want to like this place; the concept of car service is always appealing and retro. I go here about once a year to give it another chance; I keep getting disappointed. I ordered the "homemade" chili and asked for cheddar cheese( I was afraid they would top it with American cheese). Lo and behold, here comes my chili with torn pieces of American cheese with slight indentations of fingerprints, gag! Not only should processed cheese be illegal, but on chili! As I proceeded to pay my bill at the register, I was informed that they only take cash. However, you are quickly informed that they have an ATM(with the $1.75 fee). No good indicator on the door that they are cash only. Sorry Skyline, you have disappointed me one too many times.
- Pros: copious amounts of syrupy strawberry lemonade
- Cons: top everything with American cheese
awesome.

Best Pumpkin Shake Ever
by xjems at Citysearch
Found Skyline totally by accident- was a busy saturday night, and only had to wait about 5 mins for a table.
I had a 1/2 pound bbq burger- was everything the menu promised. Pumpkin milkshake was the best I've ever had. I only wish i lived in Portland so i could come here more often!
Staff was also really friendly even with the business of the restaurant managed to keep their cool. Will definately come back next time I'm in town.
- Pros: Milkshakes
- Cons: Out of the Way
A deep-fry diner serving up Americana fare in kitschy style.

In Short
Skyline's nostalgic '50s-style decor of Formica counters and Naugahyde booths and bustling, no-nonsense service are true to its "burger and shake" drive-in heritage. Families and young couples come for its signature dish, the Skyline, a lean burger towering with lettuce, tomatoes and onions. The fries and onion rings are crisp, but the real draw is the malted milkshakes in hot fudge and mint chip. More fountain specials include the sexy butterscotch sundae.
Olympians visit Portland and Skyline Drive-In

We come to Portland four or more times yearly to visit friends in the West Hills and we always plan at least one meal at the Skyline Drive-In - simply the best Burgers, Fries and Shakes anywhere!
Best Burger

I have been going to Skyline for over 36 years! I love this restaurant. The new owners have added their own touch to the already retro design. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is fun. Get a #12! It is the best in the West- or the East for that matter! If you want a trendy - toppings galore burger that doesn't let you taste real flavor- move on...to another joint- Because- This is the real deal. The juicy hamburger melts in your mouth. They use meat that isn't a frozen hockey puck! The booths are fun and the wait is no more than a few mintues with they are busy. I live about 6 hours away and I go to Portland about five times a year, Skyline is the first place I stop. You have to go!
- Pros: inexpensive, fun place=everyone, The best burgers!
Classic American BREAKFAST!
by billvolckening at Citysearch
I've been going to Skyline ever since I first moved to Portland, and it has always been my favorite lunch spot. Now, they are also open for breakfast, and their breakfast menu is true to form. It's absolutely wonderful! You walk in, and it's like they've been doing breakfast for decades. It is truly a classic American breakfast!
- Pros: food, atmosphere & service, value

I went here last week, and this is the first time here, since 1968. I hasn't changed a bit. The large cheeseburger was great, but not the best. The french fries need help. The prices were very reasonable.
I am a little on the heavy side, so I need a table, or a booth, with some room. This place has neither. It has a counter, but too small here, too. This place is not comfortable for one, who is over 250 lbs, and there are a lot of us. They have a large lunch crowd, so get here early, or you wait for a seat. This is not because it is too small, but because it is very popular. It's also a great place to rub elbows, with the very rich, of SW Portland.
- Pros: Great hamburgers., Great service., Great 50's asmosphere
- Cons: Tight seating
Best Burger In Town

Just when you thought there was no place in Portland that offered a good old down home american style top quality, gooey, drippy, un-pretentious burger--there emerges on the hilltop, off the beated path, Skyline Restaurant. Great food, great service, great deal. A family place that values customer satisfaction and portland tradition. Be prepared to wait your turn, it can get really busy in there!
- Pros: Inexpensive, Delicious, friendly
Old Friend
by lildill at Citysearch
Skyline is a very old place this is why it appears unkept becuase of it's age, I certainly wouldnt expect them to be able to correct everything, that would be costly.
sometimes skyline gets really busy and getting a seat might take a while but the waits worth it. I really dont eat much meat anymore but when I do I get the patty W/ cheese, I have been eating this very thing since I was first able to chew on solid food.
My grandmother worked at skyline for about twenty years so to me along with many other regulars skyline is an old friend just waiting for you to stop by a share it's warmth.
- Pros: Food, Service, Warmth
