We had recived a coupon in the mail for ringside east, so we went. When we didn't order drinks or wine ( we don't drink) and told the waiter that we had a coupon, he pretty much wrote us off. I am sure he figured that we would tip on the reduced amount, so why bother with these loosers. wife's steak was rare or raw in the middle, She asked for medium well. Humm. strange that a steak house would get that so wrong. Never recived bread ( we got the plates for it) Had to ask for bread, not cool. My problem with this place is that the menu has a very limited selection to choose from and rather high prices at that. Still love Ringside west, just don't like the east or at least the waiter that we had.
Pros: well dressed waiters
Cons: the more you spend the better the service

Seriously. did he say overpriced and applebees in the same paragraph? Oh...let's not mention safeway. So stay at home. Sorry. This place is great, and unexpected exquisite atmosphere and service period not to mention the area. If you want a great meal, great ambiance and not a snobby Ruth Chris waiter / atmosphere this is your place. Go to Ruth Chris on the company and take your spouse here and have the same great meal in your neighborhood without spending outrageous prices.
Pros: Great Spot
Cons: The Guy Below Me

My friends and I went to this restaurant tonight for dinner. While the service was excellent, the food was not. I ordered the rib eye steak medium well. The steak I got was more medium rare instead. Also, the steak tasted plain and not seasoned at all. The meat was not tender. I've made better rib eyes at home with meat from Safeway We had gone to Ruth Chris about 4 months ago and their steak is beyond awesome. One bite there and I was hooked. If you want to spend $$$ go to Ruth Chris instead. If you can't afford that, then you can't afford this place. Applebee's has pretty good steak dinners and actually better than Ringside.
Pros: Service
Cons: Food

Seriously treat yourself. The prices may seem a little high but are completely worth it. The staff is knowledgeable and very proper. There truly isn't a weak menu item and the wine list is incredible. Dress up and make a reservation you won't regret it. If you don't want to make it a formal affair I would also recommend Happy Hour. The steak tid-bits are awesome.

One night my husband and I decided to order to go from this location. The phone was busy for hours. So I decided to drive there to order in person. I walked up to the front counter and said I would like to place a to go order please. The manager dressed in a suit said to me sorry not at this time. I was baffled! What do you mean not at this time? I mean it's like going to a car dealership to buy a car and the sales manager tells you sorry we don't have any cars at this time. I was irrate!!! What a snobby man I thought. Unfortunately, we went back to the same location for a family dinner. The service was so so, but what's new. We're really there for the food. Four of us decided to try their Kobe Style Filet Mignon, which was the most expensive order on the menu, but get this....they didn't have any. Are you kidding me? I just hate, absolutely hate dining at a restaurant where you are judge by your cover and age. Yes we prefer to dress casual sometimes and yes we are young, but that doesn't mean we don't deserve good service. So 10 for the steak and 3 for the service. Be advised, if you are looking for a young and hip place, this is not it.
Pros: Steak, onion rings, scallops, creme brulee, coffee, appetizers
Cons: Service, atmosphere (boring/for older people), dinning as a family recommended just for the food

My wife & I were were there with another couple. We had made reservations and arrived 15-20 early and were seated as soon as we arrived. We asked for a recommendation on wine from the "value menu, under 30.00" and it turned out to be excellent, our waitress was very knowledgeable. We opted for steaks, myself the filet with a side of oysters. The meat was cooked exactly as asked and was almost fork tender, one of the best steaks I've had in years. After dinner a trip to the bar for a cigar, it was noce to have that option. All in all a wonderful experience.
Pros: Service

When I pay anywhere from $25 to $65 dollars for a plate of food and I'm taking another couple out to dinner, I want us all to be loving the food. That was not the case. It was extremely fair, but I want better then fair. The only comment made that night were polite comments, to not be rude, like "nice atmosphere" or "it's good. We made reservations days in advance, and we were given a table next to where the servers ring up their checks. I'm looking around wondering why people eat there, and what was on my mind was either, "it was there first time there too, or they haven't been to very many great restaurants." Or is it because Ringside's past reputation? I'm sorry to say, that I was just not impressed. I love restaurants and I almost always love what they do, but I just had to write a review, which is not even in my nature, because I don't what someone else to be disappointed. I hope this helps someone have a better experience when they are trying to say thank-you to some ones they care about and want to create a "moment" or have a special occasion. We had some kind of deal from my husband work for a 20% off on the entire meal, which I slipped with the credit card when I paid. Then the waiter made a announcement when he got back to the table about the discount that was taken off on the check...... so lame and unprofessional for an older gentleman in a tux. When do people learn how to act? OK, I think I have made my point.... really this place is not what you want for a special occasion.
Pros: Parking
Cons: Everything else

This was my first time in Portland and went to the Ringside for my birthday dinner. I had the chicken breast balsamico and it was the GREATEST chicken I've ever had and will probably ever have!!! everyone elses food was spectacular as well. Just some drawbacks.....the service was friendly but the waiter took a VERY long time with everything and we barely saw him throughout the meal. We had a reservation at 9:30pm, so by the time we got there, the restaurant was pretty much cleared out. We were also never given the wine list until after the dinner was over with and we were given the dessert menu with the wine list on the other side. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!
Pros: Great food. Nice ambience.
Cons: Very slow service. Not too attentive.

When ever we have something to celebrate we go to Ringside. It has that special occasion feel and is not any more expensive then the restuarants we usually go to. It is also a great place for an office lunch if you don't want to deal with the downtown hassle. The waiters are very professional and remind me of European waiters who have the job for life.
Pros: waiters, steak, elegan atmosphere
Cons: desserts not the best
