Poor Form
by rosrealm
Burgerville is famous for nasty, hard to eat tomato ends and thick, biiter tasting 'white lettuce slabs' on their burgers. Even gradeschoolers know that's not appropriate for any sandwich!
The last time I ate there, my food was served to me barely lukewarm and out of turn.
They also take longer than they used to. It's a shame they are getting worse.
If ya try to offer feedback, they don't even have the courtesy to respond.
- Pros: none
- Cons: inconsistant food
Quality has fallen very far
by PDX97232
I just got back from the Burgerville drive through, having ordered a milkshake and a halibut fish and chips.
Problem #1: Halibut fish and chips, done at the next window, instantly, which was a little odd as usually I have to wait for them to cook them. I get the order home. Instead of the fish and chips with nice breading that they used to have, they are now serving some new and inferior fish. They were very dry, since they had been precooked and sitting around. they didn't have the nice breading that they used to have. They almost tasted spoiled. Overall, the quality and taste was on par with a McDonalds filet of fish sandwich, but not as fresh, and much more expensive.
I was in love with Burgerville's old halibut fish and chips. i would never order their new product again.
Problem #2: They could not make a milkshake. The milkshake machine was broken.
- Pros: No line
- Cons: The food had gone way downhill
THUGGISH AND UNSANITARY
by computerweasel
EMLOYEES ALL LOOK LIKE THUGS AND THE CLEANLINESS AROUND THE KITCHEN AREA IS LAUGHABLE. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START. DON'T ORDER THE SHAKES!!! EVEN WATCHING HOW THEY MAKE SHAKES WILL MAKE YOU GAG.
- Pros: LEAVING
- Cons: SLOW, THUGGISH, UNCLEAN, UNSANITARY
Founded in 1961, this is a Northwest tradition for made-to-order hamburgers and old-time ambience.

In Short
Primary-colored chairs and tables, chrome-trimmed counters and retro jukeboxes transport diners back to the malt-shop era of the '50s and '60s. Known for using fresh ingredients, this local fast-food chain's signature pepper bacon-Tillamook cheddar cheeseburger is made from local ground round, while the garden burger, low-fat chicken sandwich and halibut fish sandwich are diet-friendly. A limited breakfast menu is also available.
St.johns burgerville in north portland is horrible.
by sh6280
Most burgervilles are good. The one in st.johns in northwest portland i would not recommend. The service is horrible. The gals at the drive thru have the worst attitude i have ever seen. You want to be be treated like garbage then go there. They act like you are really putting them out. I work near this location and i go back about every three months to see if things have improved. Well they are consistant about bad service and cold fries. There is something wrong with management to have such horrible service for so long.
- Pros: close to were i work
- Cons: horrible service
Great for Fast Food
by nwfoodee
I have tried the national chain fast food joints that claim the best burgers including In and Out, Sonic etc. Burgerville has excellent burgers, seasonal shakes, salads, onion rings and other sides. I love that they feature fresh locally produced products like Country Natural Beef produced here in the northwest, local onions, strawberries, hazelnuts, blue cheese, Tillamook cheese etc etc... that are well prepared. Yes it may cost a little more but I think it is worth it when you are on the go and need something fast. The service may not always be great but they are fast food . Many of the employees are students just starting out in the workforce and/or first time jobs. The quality of food they are serving more than makes up for the FEW indiviuals who may not provide the best service. For the most part I have always received great service at Burgerville. We've even taken our guests from out of town to Burgerville and to this day they still tell us this was the best bugers they ever tried and they can't wait to come back.
- Pros: Fresh Locally Produced Ingredients
- Cons: At times service may not be up to par.
Dumb and old
by xlniggerlx
As an employee of a burgerville, i must say we do not always serve fresh food. Especially as night where the fries can be up to 20 minutes old. The meat, even in the middle of the day, is not always fresh and could be stacked to make it look fresh. Overall, burgerville could be a good restuarant, howeever the lack of resources and incompetent workers had degraded it to just another fast food joint.
Great idea, in need of better delivery.

I love what this company stands for, I love their food, but their customer service at the branch in St Johns is really bad. I actually made a complaint on their website and never heard back, so maybe its gotten better but we never heard anything from them. Consequently I seldom eat there anymore even though I would love to support them as a local company that utilizes local suppliers.
- Pros: Locally provided mostly organic produce with good quality ingredients
- Cons: Bad customer service in the drive thru.
Disastrously inconsistent quality.

Burgerville can be great, but it seems to be hit_and_miss. The BV at 1135 NE MLK seems to be the poorest performer as far as food quality goes. While BV items can be great if prepared well, often the vegetables ingredients are either unripe, unclean or poorly prepared. The last couple of Mocha Perk shakes I and my GF got was made with coffee so old it made us both very ill. Learn how to make coffee you guys, especially in this town. I'm not sure when I'm going to feel brave enough to go back there and risk getting ill again.
- Pros: The food, when they prepare it right
- Cons: The food, especially the coffee, when the don't prepare it right
Maybe if this is the only burger you've ever had....
by mysterwebber19
I haven't been to Burgerville in a few years and there's a reason for it. I have also been to the best burger joints around and Burgerville doesn't compare. It compares to McDonald's or Wendy's, but not the likes of In N Out, Johnny Rockets, Rubys, Tommys or Red Robin. I suppose in a desperate, starving situation, if Burgerville was the only place around, I might eat there. It's just so over-hyped it's annoying.
- Pros: What?
- Cons: Yes
Burgerville is just ok....
by mikie75
There is too much hype about Burgerville. I have lived in many other states and have had The best. Whatburger, IN and Out, Sonic, and Jonny Rockets. I guess this is the best Portland has to offer.
I did enjoy the walla walla onion rings. But they are limited in time. What su
*ks is that they do not offer onion rings after the walla walla season has ended. At least give us regular onions to hold us down.
The buns are small and the fries s*ck. Too soggy.
The worst part is the employees hang out with you and eat. Is there an Employee breakroom somewhere?
Plus it seems like it is a hassle to drive into the parking lot. Ever hear of an location were people can get to you from all sides? Anyway stay away from here if you can...
- Pros: The Milkshakes
- Cons: Bad parking, employees eat out in dining room, burger ok
