Best Cantonese food in Portland
by rinnysmigh
Chin Yen is my favorite Cantonese restaurant. I've been coming here for 30 years, & the food is still as reliably delicious as ever. The potstickers are the best I've ever had; the eggplant is great [though the heat can sometimes depend on the cook's mood =8-) ] Shetzuan chicken is is very tasty. My very favorite is the mu shu chicken (they have it even if it isn't on the menu as are mu shu pork and mu shu shrimp). Kung pao chicken or shrimp are also very good.
The wait staff is always very efficient and service is quite fast.
- Pros: Thumbs definitly up. Great for take-out, too.
- Cons: Parking can sometimes be a problem, but you can usually park in grocery lot nearby if so
Great take out
by greeneats
Chin-Yen has been my favorite Chinese food for years their sesame beef is fabulous as is their fried rice. i have never really found eating there to be much of an upgrade over just ordering take out so you might as well just get it to go. But definitely some of the best Chinese in town!
- Pros: Food (especialy fried rice)
- Cons: Atmosphere
No no no

OK, the hot and sour soup was decent. The other dishes we tried, though (Kung Pao and Schezuan chicken, as I recall) left a lot to be desired. We're talkin double-deep-fried chicken and pork with sickeningly sugary sauces. Ai yah, no good. Very appropriate for the atmoshpere, which is like a third-rate convention hotel from the seventies. They're got an adjacent lounge/bar, though, that seemed like a worthy place to belly up to for a drink or three.
- Pros: ?
- Cons: see above
