Pets on Broadway saved me. My poor cat was miserable with fleas on a weekend. Most of the flea products are only carried at vet's offices, but I called them on a Sunday and they had every product. I browsed the store and it had a decent selection of cat stuff. The layout is confusing though. The employees were not great about greeting customers or asking if anyone needed help. However, once I went up to the register, the lady I dealt with was very friendly and pleasant, she was also happy to give her opinion on the best flea product. I will visit again for flea products.
Pros: they have Advantage, Frontline, etc, friendly cashier
Cons: confusing store layout, you have to go get an employee, they don't come to you

I have 2 chickens, a cat, and a new puppy. Pets on Broadway is the closest pet store, and it has the best selection of any pet store I've been to. It has feeders, waters, and feed for my chickens, tag engraving, litterboxes, scratching posts, and food bowls for my cat, plus more. They have everything I need for my puppy (a black lab mix). They have by far the largest selection of collars and leashes, it was hard picking one, so I got two! It has bike racks outside, and plenty of parking spaces, but it is hard to park, being off of Broadway. The customer service was above average, but not stellar. It took a bit longer than it should have in line, but it only takes five minutes to engrave tags, as compared to five days at Furever Pets. It is aslo nice that you can get food in bulk, which is very economical. In all, I know I can visit Pets On Broadway any time I need something for my pets!
Pros: selection, bulk pet food, tag engraving, lots of fish.
Cons: slow service.

I do have to agree with WAnnonymous. There is one person who works there that I find to be a rather mean little guy, my guess is this is the person that the reviewer encountered. I did have a couple run-ins with one clerk: one where the clerk raised his voice at me when I couldn't hear what he was saying and had asked him to repeat himself, other times just a general feeling that I'm lucky he's even ringing me up. Next time, I'll just get his name and mention it to the main person I deal with as I'd hate the place to lose customers due to one bad egg. But the rest of the employees are very helpful and nice. The place is clean and they have a nice selection of products, I try to support the local business rather than going to the big box store to buy my stuff.
Pros: clean place good stuff, mostly nice people
Cons: one of their clerks is super not friendly or helpful

I have been researching the topic of pets and pet stores for awhile now for my job and just wanted to comment on WAnonymous's posting. Check this place out for yourself. I don't even live in OR and would rather see for myself the store and it's contents then read what is probably some grumpy woman who has nothing better to do sit around and bash a store that she calls herself "dedicated" to. These comments don't help especially when every other comment made is a positive one about the store and its customer service. Your comment just makes you look paranoid and uptight. I recommend visiting the store for yourself and seeing if it fits your needs and as for WAnonymous, it's a pet store that sells pet food and special bags for you to pick up your dog's ---- with, not a 5 star hotel where you pay to get waited on hand and foot. Get over it.

I've shopped at Pets on Broadway for a very long time and am delighted with their products and their service. When I needed new housing and lights for a turtle the staff member was very patient in answering all of my many questions. I'm sure that if anybody ever has any problem Tom would want to know about it and would take the time to resolve the problem.

I am one of the first customers of this store when it opened. I'm EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in what has happened to the level of customer service. On my LAST visit, I could not believe the way I was treated. It was more important for several employees to watch me around corners and next to me pretending to clean, than help me when I asked. When I asked for help yet again, it seemed I had offended them. Finally, I gave up and inquired and ordered the item at the register, offered to pay for it, was told the actual arrival date, that I'd be called when it arrived and could pay for it then. HA! Not only was I not called, the item was put out for sale, sold and I had to select something else. Since when does this happen? If ---------- was alive, he'd never have hired you! You know who you are... Shame on you for disgracing what he worked so hard with his partner to create for all of us! For those that may ask - why did I conduct my business there anyway? Long time patron and the quality of the product I NEEDED for my sick pooch! Will I go back? No, I've had enough and am finally speaking out! Do I recommend it? Never Again! Unless you really don't care how you're treated! So (new to me) Pets On Broadway employees that engage in so-called customer service, THAT'S ENOUGH! It isn't as simple as "then go somewhere else", it's as simple as this: Today's economy obviously doesn't dictate how YOU act about who causes you to have a paycheck, but it sure does dictate where I shop and tell others to shop. With that said, I will support and recommend another non-corporate shop elsewhere. To the employees who know me and weren't around on those many days, Be Well!

I have been a customer of Pets On Broadway for @ least 10 years. Not once the entire time I have been a customer this store, have I ever had bad customer service. There are times things get a bit hectic for the clerks at this establishment, but even under pressure the clerks have always been helpful and courteous. They are very knowleagable and have always been willing to answer any of my quesions. I keep coming back because I have access to superior products, as well as the peace mind I am getting the best information about my pets.

I've never had anything but stellar service and quality products from Pets on Broadway. Their saltwater tanks are by far the cleanest and most well kept in the Portland area. Their staff is knowledgeable and willing to take time to answer questions and provide helpful suggestions. Add to this the guarantee they have on saltwater fish, which is almost unheard of in the hobby, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better pet store anywhere in Portland. The onlything negative I could say is that they are too far from my house and the parking is atrocious
Pros: Smart staff, good products, good selection, great prices
Cons: parking and location

Lousy customer service, surly and slow. I loved their selection, but in the end was so turned off by the long wait and "bored" response to my questions, I left. I was even "made fun of" when asking about dog collars. This could be the best pet store in Portland, but gosh, why don't they read the multiple reviews here and GET A CLUE!
Pros: great selection of products
Cons: their personnel manager should read these reviews...lousy, mean service

Not only is this store filthy and crowded but the management is the rudest I have ever come across. The only saving grace of this store is the knowledge and courtesy shown to me by the employees who work in the fish section.
