Fabulous Selection!!
by lochlomondluv at Citysearch
I have 2 chickens, a cat, and a new puppy. Pets on Broadway is the closest pet store, and it has the best selection of any pet store I've been to. It has feeders, waters, and feed for my chickens, tag engraving, litterboxes, scratching posts, and food bowls for my cat, plus more. They have everything I need for my puppy (a black lab mix). They have by far the largest selection of collars and leashes, it was hard picking one, so I got two! It has bike racks outside, and plenty of parking spaces, but it is hard to park, being off of Broadway. The customer service was above average, but not stellar. It took a bit longer than it should have in line, but it only takes five minutes to engrave tags, as compared to five days at Furever Pets. It is aslo nice that you can get food in bulk, which is very economical. In all, I know I can visit Pets On Broadway any time I need something for my pets!
- Pros: selection, bulk pet food, tag engraving, lots of fish.
- Cons: slow service.
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

We have a LARGE animal family, and Pets on Broadway has bent over backwards to help us make this store our one-stop-shopping place for all (well almost all) of our pets' needs. So instead of wasting gas and time driving all over town, we know we'll get a good deal and excellent customer service there. The managers (especially Kali!) have worked so hard to special order for us and educate us on the best foods and products for our several cats and one dog. They've done everything possible to earn and keep our business. (And seriously guys, you NEED to give Kali a raise!) ;)
- Pros: Competitive prices, personalized customer service, long hrs.
- Cons: Wish there was more than one store! (i.e. closer to us)
Good Food- Good Store
by ferret ove at Citysearch
This is an awesome pet store with awesome employees!!- If you ask a question it will be answered.
They have a decent selection of reptile, fish, bird and small animals & items- but this store does focus mostly on dogs and cats
If you want a good quality food for your pet -come here. They don't sell low quality foods... I think science diet was the worst food on their shelves... and science diet is pretty much everywhere... just like fleas and ticks.. (bleck)
They carry my ferret's food Evo! And they carry Oxbow small animal foods!! Awesome
- Pros: knowledgable staff & high quality products
- Cons: needs more space
Pets on Broadway is a great independently owned store
by gaabi at Citysearch
This is my favorite pet store in Portland. It's independently owned and I haven't been served by anyone there who didn't seem to like their job. The first time I went there was years ago to buy a finch and they referred me to their "finch guy" who was very helpful and really did seem to know everything there was about finches and care that they did well when I took them home. We've bought three finches, two parakeets and two hamsters there and all their food and stuff and we've never had less than great, friendly and knowledgeable service from their staff. They have a good selection of bird and mammal food - good organic seed and grain for sale in bulk. I also like their selection of bird and small mammal cages and toys and have bought lots of well-loved dog and cat toys there for friends. Most important, all the animals I've seen there looked good, alert and healthy. This is especially noticeable with birds and fish and their birds and fish look good, which is a sign to me of a good store.
- Pros: Good selection, high quality products, caring staff, animals always look healthy
- Cons: Once in awhile indifferent teen cashiers
Bad customer service

Sorry to say that I'm not impressed with their phone skills. I had every intention of going in to buy some supplies but answering simple questions seemed to be beyond the sales person's patience.

Wow. Where to start? For one, how do you know who the managers are? Unless you're going there pretty often, you wouldn't know. Correct? Also have you ever thought that since it isn't a major chain like PetSmart, they can't buy in bulk to keep their prices super low?
Probably not.
Very friendly staff.

The employees will go out of their way to help you. Also it feels good to contribute to a small buisness.
New York-style customer service

I have to say that I often feel like I'm back in N.Y.C. when I shop here: the sales staff, by and large, are indifferent, at best, rude and petty at worst. On several occasions I have overheard salespeople gossiping about each other, or about the Manager -- and they seem oblivious to the fact that they might be overheard -- I feel like an interloper in their own little soap opera. Ugh! The only reason I shop here is for convenience. They are also way overpriced on everything other than pet food. And the parking can be difficult.
Pretty darn good

Pets on Broadway saved me. My poor cat was miserable with fleas on a weekend. Most of the flea products are only carried at vet's offices, but I called them on a Sunday and they had every product. I browsed the store and it had a decent selection of cat stuff. The layout is confusing though. The employees were not great about greeting customers or asking if anyone needed help. However, once I went up to the register, the lady I dealt with was very friendly and pleasant, she was also happy to give her opinion on the best flea product. I will visit again for flea products.
- Pros: they have Advantage, Frontline, etc, friendly cashier
- Cons: confusing store layout, you have to go get an employee, they don't come to you
Mostly decent service, but good selection

I do have to agree with WAnnonymous. There is one person who works there that I find to be a rather mean little guy, my guess is this is the person that the reviewer encountered. I did have a couple run-ins with one clerk: one where the clerk raised his voice at me when I couldn't hear what he was saying and had asked him to repeat himself, other times just a general feeling that I'm lucky he's even ringing me up. Next time, I'll just get his name and mention it to the main person I deal with as I'd hate the place to lose customers due to one bad egg. But the rest of the employees are very helpful and nice. The place is clean and they have a nice selection of products, I try to support the local business rather than going to the big box store to buy my stuff.
- Pros: clean place good stuff, mostly nice people
- Cons: one of their clerks is super not friendly or helpful
