I have never before gotten excited to go to the dry cleaners. "Abe" is charming and funny (too bad for the humorless guy that wrote the bad review), and somehow remembers my name even though I'm in there maybe once every 3 months. The shop itself features a fun collection of antiques, with the window full of vintage wood hangers from laundries around the country long gone. How often are you tempted to buy an 1840's carved swan settee while picking up your shirts? The kind of quirky, friendly, personality filled place that makes portland great! Oh, and they do a great job cleaning clothes too.

Reading all of the reviews, I was sold. When going to read the other reviews prior to posting, I saw a negative one. You may not be able to please customers asking for ridiculous things but you sure made a believer out of me! I brought in a pretty big load of laundry, seeing as how I had an important dinner date the next night. They say first impressions are the best and mine was great thanks to Abe. Not only are they friendly and conversational, but when I inquired about the prices, I was given a straightforward answer and left feeling great knowing that my clothes were in good hands. If you're new in town as I am, go see Abe and the family. Kids offering you candy are always a plus.
Pros: Great ambience and prompt service.
Cons: None, plus it's across from a great bakery.

After researching dry cleaners on CitySearch, I decided to try Abe's Cleaners. I like the fact they are a family business. I dropped off my dry cleaning and was told by the son my clothes would be ready the next day. So I went to pick up my clothes the next business day and the owner could not find a skirt or sweater. I had to describe what was missing so he could find it. This was not good as a first time customer. Then shock settled in when I was told that it is $7.50 to dry clean my slacks. I asked the owner why it was so expensive when the average in PDX is $5.50 and he explained that many men bring in their chinos and they have to launder and then dry cleaner, hence the more expensive price for all customers. I explained my pants did not need to be launder in addition to dry cleaned and the owner stated, "Then you are getting screwed on the price." I could not believe he spoke to me that way. Other high prices include $8.00 for a sweater, $16.00 for a regular suit, $7.50 for a skirt -- all over the average dry cleaning prices in Portland's best neighborhoods.

I genuinely love going into Abe's and have been using them for about five years. Five Star, Champion, no cleaners can match the familial atmosphere. Bob (aka Abe to the layperson) is hilarious and his wife Joy provides a very calming influence, letting me know that my clothes are going to come back in pristine condition. Check them out. Prices are affordable to say the least and you pay for the service you get.

Never before have my clothes come back from the dry cleaner so soft and clean. And they don't smell like chemicals, either! I've tried at least five different dry cleaners in Portland, and none of them can hold a candle to Abe. He's a pro.

I have yet to bring in a stain that Abe can't fix. He's a lifesaver! Service is always friendly, timely, and reasonably priced. I can't recommend him highly enough.
