I lost it at Lloyd Athletic Club
by playawayz
I lost 60 lbs and I never thought I could. This club made that happen. If it weren't for this club and the people working there I couldn't have done it. The encouragement by the staff, the knowledge of the trainers, the convenience of the location and hours......I am so thankful for this place. If you need help, this is the place. If you want a place you can go workout and not have to feel uncomfortable or on display, check it out. I love it !
- Pros: Trainers are educated, staff are friendly, club is clean
Great club, great location
by RLF27
I started working out at this club this summer and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well-run, no frills gym. There is plenty of equipment and the location is great. As good a gym as I have found since arriving in Portland last year.
Personal and sincere service

When I was searching for an Athletic Club in Portland, I initially looked at the some of the chain clubs in the area. However, I found the clubs to be overcrowded and the staff impersonal among their members. Like the response below, I work until 5pm every weekday. Contrary to that response, when I arrived at Lloyd Athletic Club after work, I was warmly greeted by the front desk staff and was on a tour of the club before I could finish reading the extensive class schedule. Just minutes into the tour, I realized this was the club for me. The club is clean, up to date, and most importantly very personable. Since I?ve joined, I have found that the club is even more motivational than I could have imagined. The staff, members, and fabulous FREE classes keep me coming back every day!
- Pros: Price, Motivational Atmosphere
Questionable Customer Service

I have several friends who have said nothing but great things about this place, so on their advice my girlfriend and I decided to chat with someone about signing up. However as another review pointed out, due the incredibly inconvenient sign up hours this has been a task. The club makes it a bit hard for you to give them your business.
On several different occasions I was told that "a guest pass" would be left for me so that I could go try it out and look around. Each time I arrived I found that nobody at the front desk knew what I was talking about. Instead of trying to help me the staff at the front desk acted as if I was trying to "pull one over one". So I would again have to agree with an earlier review and say that the staff are continually ill informed.
Which leads me to ask the question- do you actually want my business Lloyd Athletic Club?
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Staff

We apologize for our mistake. We experienced confusion between where guest passes should be kept and where they were placed. With our in house systems fixed we hope future experiences will continue to be positive. In Good Health, LAC.
Something for everybody...and they know your name!

I have had nothing but a great experience at Lloyd AC! They know members by name and seem to "hear" what feedback members give them to make it "their" club. This a great feeling, as compared to the 24 Hour, Bally's and other large chaines where experiences leave one to feel like a number instead of a person. I especially love the fact that there is a variety of ages that belong. From racquetball to senior classes and activities, there is something for everybody! Great job!
- Pros: There is something for everybody!
Response from this business

It looks like our improvements are generating great responses. Earlier comments talked about our lack of cardio equipment and parking after 3pm. Since then we have expanded with new cardio equipment in a new cardio room. We also have unlimited garage parking for all members after 3pm Mon-Sat. This year we completed an expansion to our cycling studio adding more bikes and another room for group exercise classes. Thanks for the continued support!
Works for me!

I've been a member at Lloyd for just over two years now. I've been very happy with the facility and the new remodel has made the space even larger and more user-friendly. I was a bit surprised to read the previous reviewer's comments...I've always found the staff at Lloyd to be very helpful and accommodating. This has been a big difference over my previous athletic club experience with 24-Hour fitness where the staff seemed more interested in each other than their members. I usually work out at Lloyd 2-3 times a week, and they always seem to have plenty of parking in their garage if I can't find a spot in the lot when it gets busy. I also like that the equipment seems pretty new and in good repair, and there's enough of it to keep me busy even when the club is full. Also, they give you free towels so that I don't have to remember to bring my own which is nice. I know some other clubs actually charge you for them. Overall, I've been really happy with my membership experience here. Good value for the price and facilities.
- Pros: Parking, Staff, Equipment
- Cons: Wi-Fi would be nice
Comfortable, Convenient, Cost effective!

I am happy with my membership. The staff is friendly, rates are low, no LOUD music, no high pressure sales, TONS of free classes, and a great location. I go to the club while avoiding traffic.
- Pros: cost, location, easy going atmosphere
- Cons: a little dark inside
Unfriendly staff

I've been a member a few years. The facilities are all-right, but more importantly I don't feel pressure from anyone to look a certain way.
The reason I'm rating it so badly is that, though as you enter the club the greeters are cordial, when you ask questions they often give you the wrong answer. I've been mis-informed too many times to feel good about this place. I don't feel they actually want to keep your business, or get it for that matter; you can only sign up between 10AM-5PM on just a few days. Mmmm...most people are WORKING during those hours! When I actually talked to the lady about signing up she seemed less then enthusiastic about signing another person up.
- Pros: location
- Cons: staff
Mediocre at best.

I've been a member at LAC for the last three years simply because I can't find another club in my area (NE Portland). It's a nice place, pretty good equipment, love their classes. I just can't stand the unfriendly (and ill-informed) staff, the extremely scratchy old towels, the dilapidated locker rooms (at least the women's locker room!) and the total lack of parking space any weekday after 3:00 pm (don't expect to get a treadmill after 5:00 pm either). But they've got beer and racquetball courts, so I guess it's all about your priorities.
- Pros: nice class selection, good equipment
Great Club
by susher
I've had a hard time finding a good club and finally I have found one that motivates me to work out. The group classes are excellent, the staff is friendly and the facility is up to date with great equipment. I notice that they listen to the members and work hard to make everyone comfortable. It doesn't just have a gym feel to it, it has a "club" feel, where you are taken care of. Lloyd is a great club.
- Pros: Clean, Friendly, Educated
